Sunday Lunch at Grandma's

Sunday lunches at Grandma's is a must when we go to Trinidad. When we were growing up, it was a weekly event, attendance mandatory. It's where we would meet our cousins, aunts, uncles and grandma and catch up on the events of the past week. Grandma goes to the market every Sunday morning  where she gets her fresh veggies, fruits and meats and then she proceeds to make a huge spread. Everyone's dietary needs are considered and catered to, especially if you are a foreigner or a first born grandson. There is something for the picky, the pescetarians and the vegetarians.

There is a certain protocol to follow as well. As soon as you arrive, you have to eat, no questions asked, no leeway allowed. When you are done, a pack of imported cookies or chocolates is usually opened, sometimes stock that Grandma has been keeping for a few months/years. Then the tv goes on for those who are interested. Those who are not interested in tv can either go take a nap in the one room with AC or do what I usually do and head outside to the front porch or the gallery as we call it. It is from there you can hail out to the neighbours passing by.

On this particular Sunday before the wedding, my family and I were treated to callaloo, rice, curried duck, saltfish and tomatoes and macaroni pie--- an eclectic mix I know. My aunts from NY were also there as well as all the great grandkids... we had a wonderful time!

Don't mess with my food, mama!

Round #2 for A

The paparazzi came out when the celebrity arrived

I may or may not have woken him up with my loud camera.

Who is this loud individual with this bright hair and clothes?

Some love for the cousin

Love my babies! (This is my third baby. He was going to come back with me to Canada but his dad said no)

Grandma (AKA best person ever)
