What's up Wednesday- November 2017

So close to the holiday season and yet so far away.... can you tell what this post is going to be about?!

What we're eating this week?
Monday: Leftover
Tuesday: Spaghetti squash with turkey sausage and
Thursday: a mini thanksgiving meal in honour of my American Family and friends.
Friday: most likely leftovers!

What I'm reminiscing about
Novembers past--- such a wonderful time of the year.

What I'm loving
This assortment of fresh foliage my framily did on her console....

What we've been up to…
WInter fun. Weekends have been packed!

What I'm dreading…
They say to prepare for a 'real Canadian winter'..... uggghhh.

What I'm working on
Decorating for the most festive of seasons.
My kids will be doing 'their tree' soon.

And I am almost done mine--- here's a sneak peak...

What I'm excited about…
Black Friday sales... though I'm done with most of my shopping, I'm sure I'll buy something or the other. I'm in a good spot with my Christmas shopping though.

What I'm watching/reading…
I'm reading Olive Kitteridge for book club and though I was very meh about beginning it, I totally got sucked into the lives of the small town Maine natives and all the nuances in their personalities and lives.

And I've been watching all the November mid season finales. Grey's was AWESOME> I've also started recording all those Hallmark Christmas movies to watch in December in the background while I am doing stuff.

What I'm listening to..
Christmas carols yo'

What I'm wearing…
I've been busting out those winter coats already, scarves, sweaters, gloves and uggs.

What I'm doing this weekend…
We have our nexus interviews in Niagara, lunch after by some family and a quick cross border shopping trip,  a skating party and then my in-laws come in on Sunday for a couple weeks.

What I'm looking forward to next month..
All the Christmas-ing. SO much going on.

What else is new?
Not too new, but this little lady busted out some funky moves on Saturday. She certainly dances like no one is watching.

Elf on the Shelf ideas?!

This was our best one from last year but D is the one who did it. We are pretty simple but  I have been known to forget about it until morning and then fling her haphazardly somewhere right before the kids get in the room... or say she must have been 'tired'

Happy Thanksgiving Eve, Americans!!

Currently... in June (and some goals)

Yep, the month of June is here! Let's take a look at May's goals and what we did.

Kids
-Get some glasses for a little girl -sigh! I knew it was coming as D and I are near sighted (we both had surgery) but I still can't help feel a little sad.
- Read about the weather. I bought A this book on weather and I intend for us to read it with the kids-- some of it is a little advanced for a four year old but we'll try.
(We started but somehow lost steam- there is always next month)
- When it's nice out and we don't have extra curricular- we will be outside for a bit- even if Mama has lots to do inside!
- Start soccer drills and technique with C(well kind of)

D
- Celebrate D's birthday first with an intimate dinner with another family-- I get the ingredients and our friend is cooking- and then with a food truck inspired Victoria Day party. Lots of grocery shopping and prep.
Done and done. See here for the Food Truck Eats Party

House

- Finish spring cleaning the girls' closet. I started last month and need to finish this one up. so.much.stuff to pack away, bring out from storage and purge.
- Once that's done, complete my closet. D did his a couple months ago and his is putting mine to shame.
- Open and clean the pool ( before the party hopefully!)
- Open the sprinkler system.
 - Get some lighting done! We're talking pennants, sconces and chandeliers--- the stuff that my dreams are made off! So.so.exciting
(In progress, like 40% done)

A sneak peek

Me:
- Work out at least 5 times a week even if somedays it's a small workout
(so, so close. I missed one workout)
- Order and do a three day Shakeology cleanse

And just a few goals for June as there's lots going on:

Kids:
- Start soccer drills for C and swimming for both kids
- Decide if we are doing one more camp for each kid
- Get end of year teacher gifts in order
- Spend lots of time outdoors
- Work on our summer bucket list

House:
- Bathroom cabinets here we come!! (not an easy undertaking for sure)
- Finish our home lighting project
- Family coat closet!

Me:
- Work out at least 17 times this month.
- Eat clean-- except for events. Then we splurge.
- Try not to splurge too much at events lol.
- Lose two pounds (slow and steady wins the race, right?!)
- Pack and re-pack for all the stuff going on in June

And a look at
with Anne and  Erin....

Planning--
for the hectic month ahead. Two weddings (BOTH out of town), my in laws visiting next week, a road trip and the end of the school year. It's a busy one that's for sure!

Wishing--
that Mother Nature decides that sun is in order soon and that this summer will be an active, healthy, fun one for us all.

Learning--
that the days are long but the years are short. Mamas, snuggle those babies and enjoy it. In due course, they'll be learning the meaning of onomatopoeia and using it correctly too!

Also, in enjoying life, something will always have to give AND THAT's OKAY. Be it fitness, the house, something with the kids, work etc-- there's no one who can have it all!

Browsing--
Fancy earrings for an outdoor wedding in June. A friend told me that  J. Crew has great fancy costume jewelry and she's so right. Their stuff is on point!

Going--
To weddings, parties, road trips, NYC, Vermont and on a Disney Cruise! This summer will be a packed one.

Have an awesome day!

Wino Wednesday- My kind of summer white!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Usually I do my weekly Everyday in 2014 post on a Wednesday but I thought it might be cool to switch it up a bit-- this time for a topic very near and dear to my heart--- wine :-) So on this fine Wednesday in July, I'm linking up with Amanda of Kids and Cabernet (totally cool  blog name by the way) for my very first Wino Wednesday.

Kids and Cabernet

My peeps who know me know that I'm a huge fan of delicious wine. I usually have a couple glasses throughout the weekend-- and I could be persuaded to have at other times as well. Darin's the wine expert, I love a nice medium bodied reds like a malbec or cabernet sauvignon but I like my whites light, crisp and dry. These days I am loving a good sauvignon blanc.

When I saw this Francois Lurton Bordeaux Sauvignon Blanc, I knew it was a must try. First of all, the sauvignon blanc originated in Bordeaux in the 1600's-- who knew? Then, it was cheap-- only $11.95 in Canada so I assume it's way cheaper in the US.  It did not disappoint-- very dry with citrusy undertones--- almost a grapefruit or lemon finish which to me is very refreshing for the summer. I had it with a seafood stirfry the first time and then I saved the rest for a rice noodle mint shrimp salad the second.

Here are the winemaker's notes:
This subtle wine will surprise you with its aromatic bouquet and complexity on the palate Thanks to its perfectly balanced acidity, iy leaves a lasting impression of delicacy and fruit. This easy to drink wine is delicious with grilled fish, shellfish or on its own as an aperitif.

I would definitely buy this wine again. A great summer sipper.

PS. Although this looks like a sangria, it's just white wine with some frozen grapes in it to keep it cold  in the summer heat without altering the taste. The wine infused grapes are also delicious after!

Hair clip hassles

As a bonafide accessorizer myself, I understand the need for a hair clip to finish off an outfit. When my girls were babies, I bought matching outfits and headbands or hats. Before my kids had actual hair, I would buy the special baby grippy clips to attach onto their fine hair. I may or may not have also put a sticker on A's head before she had enough hair for a clip....

A hat is also a fine option!

As is a fascinator!

In Cassia's old daycare, she began to lose her fancier gymboree and cloth clips so I then purchased lots of packs of Goodie cheapo plastic clips like the kind I grew up with. But still, we would still buy more nice clips as well as the seasons and colours changed and if we saw anything different. And then, when C got her hair cup short and it could no longer fit into a ponytail, we began to buy headbands-- the fancier the better. And of course, when I say 'we', I refer to the royal we as I don't think that Darin's ever bought a clip... it's all me... with some pressure from Cass sometimes.

So getting back to the topic, as I've been purging our house this last month, every.single.room I've cleaned, every container, every little nook has had at least one hair clip. There have been hair clips on dolls, in toy boxes, in bathrooms and on shelves.

Case in point: Anjali's blanket that I keep on the floor to change her.

In A's sock drawer (it's a mess, one of this week's projects)

On our console

A crayon or a clip- your choice.
Incidentally, this is a very pretty shot, no?!

But yes, we have too many clips and every-single-day I usually have to gather up a bunch. I tell you sometimes it drives me berserk! I know it's the small stuff, but still!

This is what happens when Cassia fixes her clips....

And when mama does...

Also, this hairclip holder below has made hair clip organising much much easier. You can make it yourself like here  or here. I've done it before and it's not too complicated. I found this one exactly matching Cassia's room decor though, in Homesense. I can't find similar ones to buy online but Amazon has this one

This is once again what happens when Cassia gets into the mix.

And when mama takes charge.

So it continues.... and I have a feeling that even though the holder and our drawer is full, there is always room for more hair clips.... In fact as I was googling some of the embedded links, I found some more clips I like. I might have an obsession addiction problem!

Mid week randoms

Just a few random pics and thoughts as we hit the mid-week mark.

1- This is what happens when you let your four year old pack your cupboard.

2- Here are the girls giving Daddy some love when he comes home from work. You would swear they haven't seen him since last month.

And some more love!

3- I invested in some Hunter Rainboots--- and trust me, it's an investment- from Shop Bop last week and they got here yesterday. It was on a 25% sale (and they forgot to charge me the duty) and the way I see it,  I would have paid almost twice the price here. They are the most comfortable shoes, made out of real rubber and so, so sturdy! I can't wait for rain.

Really, mama? Are you this excited about these things??!

4- Just a tip, always click on pay duty on receipt when ordering from the US.

5-  Our filing cabinet is in use and Operation Purge is still going strong. My little helper feels like it's Christmas when I pull all the stuff onto the floor and she gets to assist.

Here she is having some fun with the label maker.

6- Found this amazing recipe online for Black Bean Burritos that our family just loves. Little A was eating the beans by the spoon. Feel free to add other veggies that you have on hand like mushrooms and bell peppers, spice it up with cumin and taco seasoning and maybe take the hot stuff out like the jalapeños for the kids.

7- I love A's expression in this shot when we were decorating for halloween- C is holding a witch and A's like: Really folks, we're posing again.

Mid Week Randoms

Happy Thursday! Once again, I am linking up with Meghan from In THis Wonderful Life for mid week randoms. Yes, it's slightly after mid-week, I know.

1- Anjali loves music class (pictured below). Gymnastics--- not so much. She jumps for about 10 seconds then begs to be held.
