Last Day of School!!!

And we are out... for those lazy, crazy, fun summ-summ-summa days! Can you tell we are excited!? Here are just a few of those last days of school photos.

They wanted to dress up in matching outfits for their last day and have all their goodies in tow like the gift cards for teachers and letters. I've been doing this for 5 years now, handwritten from the kiddos  and it almost always brings a tear or two from the teachers they are gifted too. I also always get a little Starbucks gift card for their support teachers for Phys Ed, Music, principal and admin in the office.

Also, en tow snacks for the class party and my old makeup for "makeovers" for my fourth grade class.

And a side by side is mandatory... how these girlies have grown!

My bestie Jenn and I took the girls out to dinner and a show to celebrate year end. A was legit hangry and in fine form. First stop, Graffiti Market with their touch screen tables where you could order from the table and play games on it as well.

It's only June but this girl's tan is maybe 4 shades darker already!

One of C's swim friends was in the cast of Annie at a local theatre so we all went to see her.

And that's it for last day of school fun! My girls have both had wonderful years of growth and goodness in this school year. Now they get to enjoy some summer vacay fun!!!

Happy last day of June, loves!

What's Up Wednesday- June 2019!

Hello end of June! The sun's shining and summer's here... We are stoked for the end of school and a whole lot of fun has been happening!

What we're eating this week?

A whole lot of odds and ends.
Monday- turkey kolbassa vegetable soup
Tuesday- end of year swim picnic so we didn't have to cook!!!
Wednesday- I'm thinking grilled seafood and veggies?
Thursday- out to dinner and a show for the last day of school
Friday- We're having a colleague of D over with his family so BBQ for sure
The weekend is just so far away but a little of this and a little of that!!

What I'm reminiscing about
The days when summer was ALL about taking it easy. Now it's lots of fun but not all the downtime my kiddos used to have when they were babies.

What I'm loving
All of this sunshine and the pool time we are finally getting. ooh and my little backyard patio right by our bedroom where I've been sitting to enjoy the sunshine.

What we've been up to…

Back to back entertaining over the weekend which I usually try to never do but I'm finding happening a couple times this season. C's swim friends (and then A's school friends) came over for a swim on Saturday.

Mom tip: I usually make all the kids eat fruit and veggies before I get into the sweet stuff.... which their lovely friends brought so much of....

Their parents joined us for drinks after and it was so nice chatting with everyone. Her swim friends are a good group of girls!!

And then Sunday, our framily came and every.single.one of us went in the pool. The temp was 93 and we were very happy.

What I'm dreading…
Nothing!!

What I'm working on
Wrapping up lots of little stuff before my kiddos are home and before all the summer fun/trips are happening.  Errands, chores, organising, assignments...

oh and I got some highlights and a cut

What I'm excited about…
Tomorrow-- when school's out and my lovelies get to start their long weekend early. Woot woot.

What I'm watching/reading…
Kristin Hannah's The Nightingale--- it's such a gut wrenching fictional piece about two sisters during WW2.

And not too much watching TV in the summer. My free time is spent with my books... oh and my family.

What I'm listening to..
My kids bicker LOL...

What I'm wearing…
Bright colours, sunnies and hats!

(and clearly little to no makeup)

What I'm doing this weekend…
Entertaining some, going to 2-3 parties, maybe a little strawberry picking, packing stuff and Canada Day.

What I'm looking forward to next month?
No school, a little down time, a lot of family time and some summer fun we have planned!!

What else is new?
Guess who was the top  single fundraiser in her swim team... thank you to all our lovely family who donated. Sidenote, we also won a TV for your efforts.

Just hanging around with her girls after.

She never met a swing she didn't want to be friends with...

Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends!

School Days- Our 1st and 4th Graders

Image result for last week of school quotes

Happy Monday Friends... and happy last week of school, Canadians!! I got this idea from Sarah about a lil' recap of our school year and knew I had to do it also!

A came into Grade 1 French Immersion after graduating from our awesome Montessori. I was a bit worried about the adjustment but girlfriend embraced the change with lots of little girls in her class (out of the class of 23, there are 17 girls). She chats so much about her friends and their day to day activities. We had a rough start with a mat leave replacement teaching them until March--- oh the things I can tell you, friends! But in March, her wonderful teacher came back in and we saw so much growth and development and teaching of the curriculum.

A is not my reader. She is  probably the strongest reader in her class but she really doesn't love it and barely picks up a book. The Raz Kids app that the school pays for is awesome because of the 'rewards' it gives the kids and she will do that but I'd like to get her to love reading more. I'm going to try hard (or hardly as she says it which in her  vocabulary means really hard) this summer. She prefers doing math games, art projects or deciding the guest list for her birthday party. She is in an enriched math program and she really enjoys it. She loves writing and her phonetic spelling might very well be my favourite thing in my life right now-- words like speshul and purrfect bring me lots of joy.

She is obsessed with hand sanitizer and singing. She is quiet and hard working in class. I've had the opportunity to volunteer in her class when her current teacher came back working with the kids on reading and writing and it's been a pleasure seeing her interacting with her peer group and listening so intently to the teachers words. Next year, we are going to work more on extra curricular as well encouraging her into a couple school clubs (providing that the teachers aren't on strike).

C is now in Grade 4 French Immersion and she still loves the French. She loves learning and the principles that she espouses really impress us. She is in a 4/5 split which comes with it's challenges with the girl politics and class room dynamics.  I've had to speak to her teacher a couple times to monitor certain developments and I also have conversations with her about ignoring things, respecting others, rising above it and knowing the right words to say. I'm not always impressed with her peer group and the conversations she relays to me.

She has also had a very strong teacher. The teacher is a very critical thinker and encourages autonomy, taking ownership, leadership and advocacy. All life skills that will come in handy in this changing world. I've had a couple interviews with her teacher and she always has such positive things to say about C and her attitude, socialization and values.... but her desk needs to be cleaner and she is distracted at times.

C is my reader but so much so it's been distracting in class. Her teacher came up with the idea of not keeping her books in her desk and it has helped greatly with C now focusing on more attention to detail instead of very quickly trying to get through her work so that she can read. She loves math and  health most!

C is more of a leader than a follower and is very strong with her extra curricular life at school. She does choir and PALS (leading games during outside time)  and she has tried things like yoga and bucket drumming to see if it's for her. Next year, she is excited to become a lunch room monitor.

So great years for both girls, always areas for improvements and always room for growth for them and for us as parents. Here's to a great summer, my girlies.

Yep, a whole week since I last blogged. Life lately has us so very busy... Here's a little this and that  to play catch up....

Yep, finallty sunbathing weather ;-).

One of my favourite girls and I made our way to St Jacobs for our inaugural visit.

So many little finds.

We attended the retirement party for our lovely Montessori teacher.

Raptors fever!!! We are obsessed!

Not obsessed enough to go to a Jurassic Park- I have a problem with extra large gatherings anyways but we stayed up waaayyy past our bedtimes and ate way too many carbs.... I thought I would have a mini heart attack in that last .9 second.

When you have a coupon for two pizza slices, you'd better have that for Friday dinner.

We got our backyard power washed and I'm way too excited about it... Oh the things that bring us joy.

The before...

And the after.....

Popped some prosecco to celebrate this special guy for Father's Day

I was wearing no makeup hence the B&W.

And made all his favourite things!!

Spring flowers make me happy...

She asked me to show her piano fingers and toes...

Love matching my girls.... and they don't seem to mind it either!

And finally, just two funnies.

hehehehe

Happy Friday, friends!! XOXOX
