it's my girls' world

This last week, we said goodbye to our very favourite Kindermusik. We first started Kindermusik with C in 2009 when she was just over six months old! She finished at 7 YEARS old. Now here we are in 2019 and A's last class.

Kindermusik is a wonderfully crafted and carefully curated curriculum of music introduction for kids from birth until age 6/7. The kids are introduced at a critical age to the joy and wonder of music using stories, songs and  instruments. At the end of the program, the kids are able to actually read music and are introduced to a variety of instruments and songs so that they can decide where their musical journey will next take them! There is so much fun, so much joy and so much musical delight. When C was a baby, I took her to all these different activities when she was less than a year. With A, it was only Kindermusik as we loved it so much. Here are some pictures through the ages as we walk down memory lane.

She was so shy and serious!

Her very first music instructor... Miss Michelle. She taught both my kids at different times for many different classes.

We even did some family classes. 

Where did my babies go?!

I used to get there early so she have some play time and be comfortable in the class.

Slowly, she began to come out of her shell.

This teacher was with her for most of her KM classes and we got to finish with her.

At first the parents are inside and slowly, they go outside. 

They also threw the best Halloween and end of year parties.

And here we are finally for the last class.

The girls had mini recitals and put on a skit and a musical interlude.

If you are looking for a music class for a young child, friends, I highly recommend and encourage you to look into this program. It has brought so much joy to my family!

Hello and happy Monday, lovelies! Here are just a few pictures from our very hectic but oh so lovely, dance recital weekend!

First off can we take a moment to capture the beauty of their buns-- thanks to these awesome bun makers that are now available. My kids' buns were way more scraggly before these were on the scene.

And here we are with A getting on stage for dance recital #1. She is second from the right. Let's just say it was a hot, fun, cute mess! 

Right before recital #2. There were THREE recitals, two on Saturday (each four hours long) and one on Sunday. Let's just say we didn't stay for the whole thing. Actually, A didn't even stay for C's show. The parent who didn't go picked her up and brought her home. 

My sweet C danced her little heart out in a wonderful performance! 

Girlfriend gave it her all, that's for sure!

And we're done--- and so happy for the few hours remaining in our Sunday.

Well dance is done for this year and all ended with recitals this past weekend. C first decided on mini-acro at the start of this year. She was 'done with being a ballerina' and wanted to try something new. I accidentally showed up for the mini acro class thinking it was jazz and it's been love ever since.

This year was four recitals!! Yes, four-- in one weekend-- I was exhausted--- and D and I divided it- imagine for my six year old! But a great time was had by all and Cass shimmied and shaked like it was her job and brought a smile to many a face.

We're so proud of our little dancer- her rhythm, her remembering and most of all the big smile on her face when she's on stage--- and a little sad that she's taking a break next year to do some gymnastics instead!!

C has had a long and somewhat tumultuous relationship with skating. She started at three but was super scared of falling and was always at the back of the 'bus', very gingerly skating her way through and falling lots. Yep, there were some tears and stories (and stories about tears). We kept at it that year but I've got to say- everytime we took her, our little hearts would break for our little girl. 

At four it got a bit better. She was still very slow but she conquered her fear of falling. But she didn't absolutely love it and it still wasn't my favourite thing to take her to so D did most of it. (he still does most of the skate chaperoning as I do most of the others)

Then this year, we decided to sign her up for back to back lessons both Fall and Winter at a new school/arena to get this skating business done once and for all. Maybe it's the age, maybe it's the muscle development, maybe it's the school but man, she really took off. They promoted her to the 'big kid' class in the winter and she loved it!! 

And then on Sunday, she got her first award-- ever! We went into the award ceremony thinking they were giving all or lots of kids the awards - like they tend to do nowadays--- but no! It was just the five kids out of about 100!

We are so, so proud of our little skater. Like the little engine that could, she got over her fear of skating and with quiet determination chugged and chugged until she finally could. I would watch her on the ice and smile watching her very carefully and slowly getting it done.

(Sidenote, she's now a better skater than both her parents (we're from the islands, I can't skate at all and I've decided not to learn because of my back, so wish I could though)
