Our kindergarten grad

Yesterday was such a special day for our little family- our baby (even at five she is my baby) graduated from her Montessori class. We have been at this school for FIVE years, A for four of those five years and we have so many good things to say about the Montessori method, her wonderful teachers and this amazing school.

Before I show you a few pics of the graduating class, let's take a look back at the cuteness from her first day of Montessori in the toddler program.

Too funny that I chose a RL dress for both her first and last day of class ;-)
So sweet, I might get a cavity XOXO

And now she is a 'big kid' in the program. Some of the little ones also left the program but those in the back row are the graduates.

The most wonderful, hard working Mrs. Irwin! Our family will miss perhaps the best teacher we have ever encountered. A has grown and flourished under her care. She calls Mrs. Irwin mama and me Mrs. Irwin sometimes.

She loved her little bouquet that we got her!

We took the graduates for a little lunch at McD after. They loved their special treat.

Onward and upward, sweet girl! You have exceeded our expectations with your learning and growing this year and we can't wait to see what the future holds for you! Bring it on, grade 1.

Our Ballerina's First Recital

Well our second ballerina's first recital anyways... Totally worth a Friday Favourite's post, no? This last Saturday was little Miss A's first foray into dance. Each week, she twirled and twerked her little self with her little friends- ok maybe not the latter but girlfriend does bust out some risque moves on occasion. Case in point, her ghetto plie.

First off, hats off to me for this bun perfection :-D #bundonut

And our little ballerina pre-recital. My girl was a crocodile in a Peter Pan production. #neversmileatacrocodile

 Pre-show colouring.

A little warm up- this was the cutest thing ever.

We weren't allowed to take pictures of the show but here we are after! Her friend

And one with her mama! The lady who takes her to the classes and all...

We were blessed that Ajee and Aja were able to come see the show.

 And one with Dad!

#justusfour
We only did one of the three recitals as we had a family wedding to attend but it was a beautiful show! Such a special time for our little lady and we are so proud! Her elegance, grace and confidence (with a little temerity thrown in for good measure) were certainly stage worthy!

The Kids Behind The Blog- Let's Talk Love

Also known as the one time for the month the kids sit and contemplate questions and the meaning of life.

Here are their answers to all things love... As a reminder, C is almost eight and A is four and a half (the half is very important)

What does the word 'love' mean to you?

C- Ummm (looking incredibly uncomfortable)... like you have a feeling for someone.
A- Ammmmm.... heart

How do you want to spend Valentine's Day

C- making cookies and valentines
A- maybe give Julia something as she gives me timbits everyday.

Girlfriend's first knitting master-piece! Better than I could do!

DO you have a Valentine? Who?

C- (another confused look)--- Ummm Anjali!
A- Do we celebrate Valentines? Do we celebrate everything? Whyyy?   What's a Valentine / Oh, Julian.... I mean Julia

(Julia is this girl in her dance class who shares her timbits/donut holes--- aka-- her new bestie)

How many days in February

C- 28!
A- Ummmmmmm none as it's February already... how many more days until Valentines?

How do you show someone you love them?

C- hug and kiss them
A- I like Julia.

(yeah the timbits are the key to her heart)

As a total side note, A brought her first home reading book home this week. A huge milestone in her little school and this Mama's heart is so, so proud!

The Kids Behind the Blog- Halloween Time

I have begun to love these interviews for this series... and so do the kids. They take their responses very seriously, and pause before answering!

As a sidenote, C is seven and A is four (and sometimes fourteen)

What do you want to be for Halloween?
C- A majestic Queen of Hearts-- but I really want to surprise everyone. (so if you meet her, don't spill the beans)
A- A bumblebee or a mouse-- girlfriend is wearing last year's costumes and doesn't mind one bit!

Do you like handing out candy or collecting it?
C- giving candy
A- getting candy (strange that the one who likes savory stuff likes getting the candy!)

What should mommy and daddy be for Halloween?
C-  You should be mustard as Daddy is going to be sriracha
A- Daddy should be a pig and you should be pink

Do you like to make a scary or happy faces Jack-o-lantern?
C- Scary (don't know why as she can be a bit of a coward)
A- Happy

What is the best part of Halloween? What’s the worst?
C- the best part is getting dressed up and getting all that candy
A- Best: Trick or Treating
Worst? When we had the bucket.

And look at these cuties last year!

The kids behind the blog

I ask and they answer, Here what the kids behind the blog had to say this month...

What is your favorite sport? Why?
C- Gymnastics 'cause it's fun to do, and I'm flexible!
A- Skate when I grow up

If someone gave you a million dollars what would you buy?
C- An Xbox so that we can play Just Dance.
A- lipstick

Tell me 3 things that kids do better than mommies and daddies.
C- Annoy people and have fun
A- play with a play phone (?!)
What is your favorite thing to do in the fall?
C- Jump in leaf piles
A- I don't know.

Share with me 3 things you like about yourself.
C- I'm pretty flexible, I'm so good at reading and I have a pool (?)
A- I don't know.  Lipstick, I used to have play lip stick, I like phones and I like people to come over and play.
(Apparently all she heard was 'you' and 'like' and she came up with the list) When prodded, she then replied 'My sparkly shoes')

Goodbye Kindergarten

And she learnt so very much more!

This might be one of those #sorrynotsorry #favouritenotfavourite posts. My sweet girl graduated this week and there were some  tears, some very special smiles and some proud moments--- all mine of course.

Here's her last day at school in pictures

(but first, here's her first day of school here)

And her last

Her first 'job'

One of her lasts. She's made so many friends!

I sneaked off to A's class to watch her circle time as well.

I was a parent volunteer for the bowling- their little activity of the day. There was bowling, dancing and lots of glow in the dark shaking.

Then back to A's class where she said goodbye to her teachers. We will miss them so much.

During the graduation ceremony. Cassia had a 'line' in the poem. She was the only kid to do a very large curtsy after.

And she's graduated!

Before we left, this teacher gave Cassia the biggest hug and told her it was such a pleasure to teach her and watch her learn. She then said to me that there are some children who especially touch your heart and she really enjoyed watching Cassia learn and work so hard. I might have brought out the mama tears around then.

The graduating class of 2027!
(well 4 of them anyways)

And then it was time for some celebratory pasta.

Followed by a little celebratory balancing.

And finally a little downtime, snuggles and chats about summer plans.

And just 'cause, here was the first morning of school

And the last!

We are so proud of our grown up girl. Proud of how much she's learnt and grown. And most of all love that she has blossomed into a happy, cheerful, kind, well-adjusted kid. We're so excited for what the future holds for her!
