Houston #4

Happy Friday, friends! First off, thank you so much for your kind words, well wishes and prayers for my cousin who is sick. We appreciate all of it. His progress has been slow and steady and even though there are significant effects we are so thankful that he is still with us. Again, lots of gratitude.

It's been a bit since Houston but here's the final installment of our Houston pics. First stop, by popular demand (my girls), we headed back to Tacodeli for some deliciousness.

Can you see the happy faces and the queso between them... they are clearly my offspring.

Next stop, the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The Christmas trees were still up, decorated by different charities and they were so beautiful.

There was such a majesty in this museum. There was wildlife, space, a gem fault, a faberge collection and so, so much more. We were enthralled!

Isn't this ceiling beautiful.

My kids were captivated by the marine exhibit and kept choosing their favourite mollusks.

The first Faberge egg I've ever seen in real life.

Next stop, meeting our friends at the Children's museum of Houston, arguably the best children's museum we've ever been to.

Notice the irony?

The veterinary clinic.

Isn't this huge exhibit absolutely cool?

We went out to a wonderful last night dinner at Eddie V's. Such good food.

And that my friends, is a wrap on Houston 2019/2020. We really enjoyed the city and all of our adventures there.... oh and the tacos... definitely the tacos!

Have a wonderful weekend!

What’s up, Wednesday?!

What's up, friends and family. Seems like I haven't blogged for a hot minute. So much has been going on... not all of it good... But chug along we must, and that's what we've been doing bit by bit, day by day but really sometimes this is what I really feel.... ha!!

, What’s Up Wednesday {12.18.19}

What we're eating this week?
Lots of veggies, greens, lean protein and grains.
Monday: Mixed bean soup.
Tuesday: a fundraiser for swimming-- we went to a local soup/salad joint for dinner.
Wednesday: fish and cauliflower salad.
Thursday: falafel salad
Friday: some sort of takeout is calling our name
What I'm reminiscing about
This lovely little lady

What I'm loving
These little visitors in our back yard.

And this lovely edible arrangement we gave my mom for her birthday. Doesn't it look yum? Happy Birthday, mama!!

What we've been up to…
Skiing, swimming and lots of time home with these kiddos as there teachers go on strike. I feel like I am on constant snack duty...
We also had a swim meet this past weekend... This gal crushed it.

 Four improved times, yo!

What I'm reminiscing about:
This lovely little lady

How time flies!!

What I'm working on
I started F45 training at lunchtimes close to my house. So I guess stamina and strength! A couple resistance workouts and a few hiit workouts thrown in. It is insane!

What I'm excited about…
The summer!
What I'm watching/reading…
I'm into This is Us, A Million Little Things, Grey's Anatomy and The Bachelor--- oh the suspense! I'm also watching The Crown and the Marvellous Mrs. Maisel at times.

What I'm listening to..
Right now, jazz is playing in the background.
What I'm wearing…
I sprained my toe a couple weeks ago. It was so painful, even socks were hard to put on.. It's a bit better now but still not 100% so I guess lots of Uggs. And the usual sweaters, jeans, workout gear, rinse, repeat.

What I'm doing this weekend…
We have a date night with friends we haven't seen in 9 months, the last weekend of skiing and lots and lots of prep for the next week ahead.

What I'm looking forward to next month?
My parents try to squeeze in a visit whenever they can and I'm always so happy to see them.

What else is new?
The not so good stuff I mentioned earlier. My very close cousin, the live wire of our family who is like a brother to me ( he calls me big sister actually) contracted bacterial meningitis. He was critically ill and on life support for a little less than a week. To say we were distraught and so, so worried is an understatement. Brain function and organ failure were also huge concerns of ours. I do not know if I've ever prayed so hard for anything before. Thankfully by God's glorious Grace, he regained consciousness and the vital organs seem to be functioning okay. We are still very concerned about other things, he is in a lot of pain and there are a lot of complications so many prayers are coming his way for healing. It really does make you realise how temporal things can be and how very grateful we need to be for health and family

So that's what's been going on. Hope you have a wonderful day, lovelies. Hug those ones near and dear to you especially tight!

Not Just A Mom - Date night

Happy Monday friends! Today on our Not Just A Mom linkup, we're talking date nights!! So important in a relationship--- especially after those kids come along!

Here's how we make it happen....

- We do exactly that-- make it happen. We have a couple good babysitters and our niece in town thankfully. When my parents come to visit, they also love to get solo time with the kids so we make it happen then as well.

- Little impromptu trips are fun as well. When we drop the kiddos to skiing, we sneak off for quick lunch and a grocery trip... without kids, grocery shopping is a whole 'nother experience, ha!!

- We do solo couple time but we also do double and triple dates with friends... that's also fun and mixes it up a bit!

- We are foodies, so trying out different restaurants is always a good idea...

- But then we also switch it up and head to experiences and shows sometimes.

- When date nights out aren't happening, date nights in are also fun. A good movie, popcorn and wine is always a good idea!!!

Speaking of date night, here's our most recent date night this past Saturday.

Aperitif- check

Yummy food (but exceptionally dark photo) check

A show after... check

Here's to a lifetime of dates with this special love of mine ;-)

Currently- February 2020

I've been so scarce around these parts. Work, life and teachers' strike has me crazy busy. and this blog will probably take a bit of back seat. I'll pop by from time to time to say hi. In the meanwhile, I'm linking up with Anne for a little Currently in February.

Loving: the Superbowl party my friends' house every year for the guys and my kids and I just sneak our way into. They do such a great job!

Also, can we just talk about how LIT the halftime show was?!

Embracing: the fact that I needed to switch up my exercise routine after almost 6 years at the gym.   It's just been two days of F45, this new exercise program that focuses on HIIT, functional and resistance training and though it's not totally my fave in the 45 minutes I'm doing it and I might want to throw up, the after is awesome. 45 minutes and done-- yes please! Max heart rate of 174--  yes please!!!

Tasting: Sundays are for soups!! I made the best Whole 30 inspired  jambalaya soup this weekend. I used turkey and a whole lot of other veggies like okra, zucchini and mixed mushrooms. The results were phenomenal!

Wearing: it was a long time coming but I bit the bullet and am slowly building my lulu wardrobe for working out. Their pants especially fit me better than the Zella stuff that I have.

Preparing: all the meals on a weekend!! I do a couple lunches for my kiddos and a large soup  for the adults for the rest of the week. Also, when we can, we grill some lean protein and veggies for a weekend dinner and then use that for at least one lunch during the week as well. We have been loving food on the grill in the winter time... it feels like we are cheating!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends. Don't forget the not just a mom link up every second Monday. Here's a list of all the topics!
