What's Up Wednesday- May 2017

Happy Wednesday! The temperature is climbing and so are our spirits!!! Here's what we've been up to.

What we're eating?
Monday: These turkey meatballs from the 21 Day Fix-- they are SO good, made out of turkey and oatmeal. I made a double batch to freeze some and for lunch during the week.
Tuesday:Leftovers.
Wednesday:I'm thinking breakfast for dinner. In our house,  we prefer eggs for dinner than breakfast.
Thursday: TBD- Some sort of beans and rice.
Friday: There's a food fest at a local stable. I'm thinking we will do dinner there.

What I'm reminiscing about?
At this time last year, I had just broken my collarbone. Some not so fond memories.

What I'm loving?
Okra. I had it at my friend's house just sauteed with a little olive oil, garlic powder and salt. It was SO good.
The weather! We try to get outside when we can!
That the pool is open. Still too cold to swim but soon hopefully!

What I'm dreading?
Packing school lunches for the next month. I feel done! But I've started packing them the day before when I can and this has helped BIG TIME.

What we've been up to?
Life has been busy with skating, gymnastics, violin finishing up, soccer starting and dancing. And lots of fun weekends  and events (like our food truck eats party from a couple weekends ago)... some low key and some not!

What I'm excited about?
Same as last month! Can I say summer fast enough?! I can't wait for the kiddos to be home from school and our summer travels-- like Vermont, NYC and cruising with Disney!!!

What I'm watching/reading?
I recently started Call The Midwife and I'm loving it. I've also started The Bachelorette. I'm a Rachel fan for sure and I think this season will be a good one!

What I'm listening to?
Podcasts and Google Play. Oh and my kids bicker in the backseat of the car (jealous much?)

What I'm wearing?
The summer stuff is being busted out slowly. We're migrating to shorter sleeves and white pants!

What I'm doing this weekend?
The girls are off on Friday so we're just chilling and maybe heading out in the PM to the food fair. On Sunday, we head to some pre wedding festivities and spending the night at a friend's house with the kiddos. On Sunday, it's going to be pretty chill just prepping for the week ahead.

What are you looking forward to next month?
A wedding, lots of get togethers, some pool time, the grandparents visiting, A's first ballet recital, the end of school and a road trip to Vermont! I'm tired just typing all that out.

What else is new?
These pictures of my kiddos that my friend took of them. LOVE them.

Oh and the lighting is slowly getting fixed! Will post pictures when I'm done.

What's my favourite vacation spot?
Easy- Italy before kids and Turks & Caicos after!

Have a wonderful day!!

Food Truck Eats Party

So a little while ago, D came up with this idea of a Food Truck Eats party. Inspired by the Peller Estates Party we went to last year on the Victoria Day weekend (his birthday weekend!), we invited 6 couples, each in charge of bringing a signature food truck inspired dish. It was sweet, simple, delicious fun sampling everyone else's cuisine.

 On the menu were:
Pulled turkey sliders
Lobster Mac & Cheese
Fish Tacos
Jerk Wings
Trinidadian Oysters
Indian Chicken Kebab Sandwiches

(We spaced out the food about 30 to 45 minutes  apart so we weren't stuffed after the first hour)

We had planned to host the entire party outside but there were some heavy clouds and cooler temps initially so we decided to switch it up to inside.

There was local craft beer tasting for the so-inclined age of majority....and strawberry sangria... and wine.

Our friend's brought a batch of these to be worn.

I got a ton of these baskets and lots of compostable liners to switch out between meals.

Amazing lobster mac n cheese.

this little lady accessorised herself

Fish tacos are a must with food truck festivals, no?!

These jerk wings finished in one hot second

A box of chalk and a whole lot of fun

My sweet friend, Andrea took most of these photos! Except for the shoddy iPhone ones. That was all me, baby ;-)

These oysters marinating in this special homemade sauce made me homesick for Trinidad. Andrea is simply the best at shucking and creating this concoction.

Lots of fixings for the kebabs and naan!

so.so.good

As we were eating all day, we kept dessert lighter with homemade ice-cream and cake.

Happy Birthday, my love! Here's wishing you a happy, healthy year to follow!

It was such a fun start to summer 2017! It might just become an annual affair!

Friday Five

Happy Friday, loves. For some reason, this week just got away from me and blogging was just not happening. Between this past long weekend with lots going on and an ensuing illness currently plaguing our house, it's been busy.

Here are just a few happenings around here.

1- Just a few shots from D's birthday. We spent the morning as a family followed by our friends coming over and the very same awesome John ( a la Christmas fame) cooking a four course meal.

Breakfast with us four.

We inherited two more kids in the process.

The table was set for the amazing wonders to follow

An aperitif to begin the festivities

The food did not disappoint and D did wine pairings to highlight the different flavours in each course.
#1 a coconut milk soup with spicy thai chili, cilantro, ginger and sliced chicken.

2-Tuna and swordfish poke: with papaya sweet peppers and crunchy garlic

3- spicy turkey and quail skewers served with  peanut and honey dipping sauces

4- Grilled lamb medallions with kale, carrots, okra and tomato fried rice and quinoa

We were stuffed and had to wait to do cake the next day as the kids fell asleep also!

2- The lighting for atop the casual dining table is installed.

Still coming are the counter lights and the formal dining. And yay for the pool being opened last Friday too!

3- I saw these awesome sneakers on Kate's feet and knew they had to be on mine (for 30% off)

4- French and dutch braids for the win. Mama needs practice and these kiddos need to stop squirming.

5- The half yearly Nordstrom sale is on. I didn't go crazy but snagged a  few of my very favourites- including two Lush tunics ( i have four already #obsessed much) that I wear almost year round and these awesome shirred Zella Pants to lounge in (lulu quality at half the price)

And that's a wrap this week. Have a wonderful weekend! Ours may either be packed with a visit to TO or very quiet depending on how we are all feeling!!

Friday Five

Happy Friday, lovelies. The start of a long weekend and beautiful weather here in Canada so the mood around these parts is so, so happy.

The girls put a chair outside (a dining chair no less) and just enjoyed the sunshine.

1- St Jacobs Farmer's Market (a huge market close to us) will be on repeat this summer with my crew. That's for sure. I went yesterday as they only open on Thursdays and Saturdays right now. So much fresh everything!

2- We've graduated to Level 2 readers with a certain four year old. Silent e's are hard work for little missy but she's chugging along.

3- I've completed the Three day refresh from Shakeology and it was not as bad as I thought it would b. I had plateaued with weight loss so I wanted to do something different. So far, I've lost 4.2 lbs.

4- My neighbour's flowers bring me all sorts of happy! Take a look at their carefully curated garden.

5-And of course my very favourite. Happy early birthday to our D! Life is simply happier when you are around. You make us laugh, smile, and sigh all at the same time! Happy birthday, love of my life!

Happy Friday! And Happy Victoria Day weekend, Canadians!
