Currently- As I'm playing catch up

Every year on my birthday, I do a currently post... I call it a state of my soul.  Nine  months after my birthday isn't too late, is it?

thinking |  That 'it is what it is' . My mantra these days as we're in the midst of a house reno.

drinking | Lemon water, coffee, water... in that order. I think this weekend I will have to change that a bit.

eating | all things vegetarian for the past week. It's the hindu festival- Navratri so we've had a period of meatless eating. There are so many options out there now. Also, trying experiences and cuisines with the kiddos.
reading | Obsessed with Libby, the online library app. I've been trying new authors and my book spending has gotten way less. Right now, I'm corcurrently reading How to raise kids who aren't a$$holes and  With Love from London.
loving | the beautiful fall foliage
wanting | my reno to be over so then the fun of layout and furniture can slowly begin.
watching | The Resident and Bachelor in Paradise. I'm one of the last ones to watch network TV and I feel like those days are numbered.
listening | to Kelly Ripa's new book on Audible.
trying | to really rock this job after 9 years away from the marketing /corporate world. It has not been easy, friends.
wishing | see wanting above
planning |a teeny, tiny thatnksgiving dinner for our family on four with NO furniture in the house... we are trying to get creative with outdoor furniture and makeshift tablescapes which everyone knows are my jam :-).
enjoying | REALFRUIT gummies--- Canadian friends, you should try them!
day dreaming | of November, new furniture and a new look to upstairs in our house.
waiting |  to see if we actually have to move out while they're doing some of the renos. My friend is going away for three weeks so she's offered us her place but it's far away from all the extra curricular that occupies every single evening.
liking |That today still feels like summer but looks like fall. LOVE fall foliage
needing | to start researching high schools for a little miss who isn't so little anymore.
wearing | a few pieces... most of my clothes is in a pod in our driveway.
starting | to enjoy my kids getting older. When they're not incredibly sassy, they're quite enjoyable.

smelling |autumn candles. I've been burning one in my little office area in the basement since there are no windows.
thanking | my neighbours who take Toby when there's no one at home or the contractors are there and I don't want him to be underfoot.

Happy Thanksgiving, Canadians!!

What's Up Wednesday- June 2021

Happy last Wednesday in June and yes to the end of the bizarro school year.... it's been a long one, friends. However, C told me that I had to blog soon as my last blog post was a little bit of a cliff hanger (!), so here I go....

, What’s Up Wednesday {12.18.19}

What we're eating this week?

Monday: Lamb skewers and leftover Greek salad. Kids also had greek potatoes and rice
Tuesday: shrimp/crab cakes with a lobster stuffed portabello with garlic scapes and asparagus. Kids had potatoes and chicken also.
Wednesday: shimp/crab cakes with a 1/4 lobster stuffed pepper and a salad. (can you tell that I went to the fishmonger this week.
Thursday: Canada Day food--- burgers et al.
Friday: hmmmm.... who knows?

What I'm reminiscing about
Summers past when I spent at least a week in NYC with my family. One of my favourite people turns 6o today and I'm not there to celebrate with her.

What I'm loving
Sweet C graduated from elementary school. We had a tiny get together for her with four friends (our limit in Ontario at the time was 10. Actually, in the Waterloo region it still is ten until mid July)

What we've been up to…
A bit of gardening... things are starting to look lush and green.

Check out the baby zucchini

Peonies from my neighbours' yard make us so happy.

What I'm working on

Getting this little lady her second vaccine- so far, I've managed to move it up by a week but I'm hoping for sooner.

What I'm excited about…
We went to the farmers market for the first time this year and it was good to do a random summer outing.

What I'm watching/reading…
I've not been watching a whole lot except for the final episodes of Felicity when I get a chance but boy have I been reading. I just finished Jennifer Weiner's new one and it was very good. I seem to be gravitating to  contemporary mysteries these days. I'm also going to reread some of my old Elin Hilderbrands like I do in the summer.

What I'm wearing…
Summer dresses- this year is the year of the shirt dress! I'm obsessed but only have two, ha!

What I'm doing this weekend…
Canada Day is on Thursday so it's just a small get together with a couple neighbours. Other than that, A has a couple playdates and I'm going to see a sweet friend who has pancreatic cancer.

What I'm looking forward to next month?
Some summer fun with the kiddos. A couple day trips here and there, A's birthday, some low key  playdates and maybe a couple get togethers with family and friends. Looking forward to people again LOL.

What else is new?

My neighbours' son had a wedding the other day and it was so beautiful. We weren't invited but D didn't want to be in his shorts while the guests were all around...

Also, this dog is obsessed with A while she is eating. Maybe because she passes him along some food.

So that's what's been going on! Hope you have a wonderful day, lovelies.

Prime Lately and Currently....

Happy February, lovelies. I haven't done a Prime Lately  with Tanya in ages so I thought I would get it together in time to do one this month... here are just a few of our prime purchases lately since most stores are closed here in Canada.

Pet groomers are closed and Toby was beginning to look very shaggy and couldn't see very well. We bought this set and since then, I've been borderline obsessed with thinning his fur out a bit.

Post to come soon, but since going gluten free as a family, these are our favourite cookies!

I bought this set for myself at a fraction of the cost of my old electric toothbrush, which conked out anyways. I'm a fan and may or may not have bought another one for someone else.

This was in my package of presents for my birthday and they are amazing if you have long or thick hair.

Isn't this a great gift for a teen/pre teen? I got this for one of C's friends for her birthday and she loved it!!

Rain or shine, we are walking the puppy these days! This neck warmer/face mask makes it soooo much more bearable!

I was sick of the huge mess in my plastics cupboard and this lid organiser helped neatened things up just a bit!

And now for a little currently with Anne....
Loving:
This Trinidad pelau dish that I made this weekend. It was sooo good. We ate it for three days. It looks green because of the massive amounts of kale and other vegetables I put in it.

Also loving the fancy placemats for our family Sunday brunch this weekend.

Reading:
On the Libby app-- free with my local library membership. Right now, I'm reading Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb. I'm liking it more than I thought I would but it's a slower read.

Remembering:
Super bowl parties in the past. For the past few years, we've gone to our family friends' house for an awesome party. This year, we are on our own but these nachos that I made this weekend will be repeated for the big night!

Doesn't look like it but so many veggies in these-- I sautéed onions, mushroom and peppers.

Sharing
my mornings with this  sweet 'pup'-- technically he is still a pup until a year but at 25 pounds, he feels like a full grown dog. Coffee and snuggles do make a wonderful morning.

Wishlisting
To see my parents and family--- I'm really feeling it these days and with closed borders and Canada's limited vaccines, I'm worried for the summer. I know it will all work out but I have my moments.

What's new with you these days? What's on your prime list?

Currently on my birthday!!!

It's my birthday, friends!! This is 42!!!   Every year ON my birthday, I do a little currently- sort of like a state of the soul if you may.... Here's this year's currently...

thinking |  That  remote learning will do me in! My little one tests my patience in so many ways as it's a lot of self learning and not a lot of class meetings. It's hard for an eight year old and then it becomes hard for her mama!
drinking | I was more of a tea drinker until this past year when I've converted to a morning cup of coffee on most days. If I'm having breakfast which I seldom do anymore, then I'd have tea.
eating | gluten free as a family. It's going well but it certainly is a transition. A gluten free slice of cake is hopefully in my future tonight.
reading | Family for Beginners-- A Novel by Sarah Morgan... I'm really liking it--- A couple heavier ones are on my list so this touching, satisfying read is good for my soul.
loving | and accepting my strong body and that I can do a push up in my forties when I couldn't do a ladies' pushup in my twenties, even though I was probably 20 pounds lighter.
wanting | my poor Toby's ear infections to be at bay. Poor thing has had a rough week with a possible surgery and double ear infections. And... putting his ear drops in is in the Top 5 of physically difficult things I've ever had to do in my life.... eesh
watching | too much news this past year--- I've started to switch off except for the amazing inauguration--- it was so heart warming and I found myself getting teary eyed... and I'm not even American! Other than that, D and I have been watching some stand up.
listening | to many podcasts when I take Toby for his daily walks.
trying | to meditate every morning and clean my house every evening.... four people and a rambunctious dog is chaotic!
wishing | that I can see my parents and family over the summer.
planning | menus that involve using what we have in our fridge , freezer and pantry so we don't have to go to the supermarket too often during lockdown-- my longest is still 17 days between visits. I consider it a personal challenge of sorts.
enjoying | all the doggie snuggles for his favourite person--- he is getting so big.
day dreaming | of sunshine and summer! Or at least spring and no lockdown.
waiting |  see the point above about lockdown in Ontario.  So basically waiting for our Covid numbers to go down or at least a large part of our populace to be vaccinated.
liking |My Peloton! Some great workouts, that's for sure.
needing | to stop snacking after dinner.... I've switched from Milk to Dark and soon I'm really going to try sugar free keto chocolate-eeeep!
wearing | all the joggers and all the sweatshirts like everyone else.
starting | to add Bollywood dance from YouTube to my workout selection. A little dance is good for the soul. Any other YouTube dance workouts you recommend.
smelling | lots of cooking over lockdown.
thanking | God for all the many blessings in this challenging year behind us. Here are just a few of them that have come to mind for my past year.
1- Walking around my neighbourhood... it's been a big part of my social life for the past year.
2- F45 and Peloton- two different, difficult workouts that really challenge me.
3- Cooking even more- lots of new stuff and old favourites. Oh and my family is glad that I can finally make roti.
4- My little love, Mr. Toby
5- Getting even closer to my cousin who almost lost his life nearly a year ago.
6- My mom surviving Covid and everyone else  in my family staying healthy despite the pandemic.
7- All the family shows we made time to watch
8-  The stuff at home we were able to accomplish.
9- Mini adventures in Toronto.
10-New friendships I've forged in the past year.

A low key birthday for sure... takeout, some sparkling wine and lots of laughs with this crew. Oh and cake.... always cake!

Friday Favourites--- December Baby!

Happy First Friday in December, folks. I usually have a holiday party on either the first or second Friday in December but not this year!!! So instead, we'll focus on the family fun!

1- We joined my American first for a Zoom call and then in solidarity had our own Thanksgiving lite. My family loves my turkey! It's the dry brine and all the butter I bath the bird in.

Then part two with the leftovers.... We always serve our first set of leftovers on our fancy table all setup.... it prolongs the celebration and we need that sort of positivity in 2020.

2- Then onto December and our North Pole Breakfast!! Patraj and Noelle are back with their usual mediocre antics (they aren't as crazy as some of the other insta-elves that I see.... though, with a new non-believer in the duo, I'm getting some help there.

Once again, it being 2020, our North Pole breakfast consisted of way more sugar than usual. (we saved quite a bit)

3- And then to add to the awesomeness December 1st was a snow day!! It was so beautiful!

4- We also did some ugly sweater cookie decorating-- Costco for the win!!

Someone's cookies aren't a hot mess this year!

5- And finally, someone is really into her selfies these days.. Here's just one from the dozens on my phone.
