Our soccer star-- and I'm not talking World Cup here

So we have a little soccer star here. And though you might think it's this one....

She spends quite a bit of the game doing this

I don't blame here. It's her first time, the sun  is hot, there's lots to talk about with her five year old friends, this isn't her favourite (dance is). I might have been the same.

However, this is the one I'm talking about.

Our coach, Darin.

When I was signing C up for summer soccer, I noticed there was a $50 discount for the players if  a parent signed up to help with coaching. I asked D if he wanted to as he loves soccer and he agreed. Bear in mind,  we thought it was to help. When he went to the first training, it was then he realised that he was the soccer coach. Yikes!

He had never done anything like this before but as D usually does, he faced it head on! There was some training but not lots. He did research on youth drills online, watched youtube videos, studied the instructional brochures and was ready to go. Of course, I somehow got roped in involved, having to email the team, develop snack sign up sheets and become the assistant coach when someone cancelled last minute. Each week, in true D form, he does a debrief at home when he's done each week of what went well, what didn't and what he as a coach could do better next week. It's sort of sweet, sort of weird, sort of impressive.

I won't lie, it's hard work. It's dealing with five year old personalities, trying to engage the parents and motivating the kids without pushing them too hard.

A lot of time is spent like this

And this...

But I think he loves it anyways. I must say we're very proud. Great job, D!

He's also borderline obssessed with World Cup and watches every single match, the pre and post games. Who are you rooting for? We're Brazil and Netherland fans.... well D is and I just follow him 'cause I figure he knows what he's talking about.

Also, Happy 4th of July to my American friends and family. Enjoy the fireworks, food and fun! (and if you're looking for the best turkey burger recipe ever, click here!)
