Favourite things- O Canada

This Tuesday was a very special one for me. I became a Canadian citizen, complete with oath, anthem and paper flags. This country is very special to me. It's the one I've built my life in,  built our family and made a home. I love this place, the respectful society and the clean air quality--- seriously at last ranking, it was third in the world.

In honour of this awesome occasion, I thought I would put together a list of a few of my favourite Canadian things.

Maple Syrup

sure we can get maple syrup in other parts of the world but  there is an abundance in Canada. And it sure beats high fructose corn syrup on your toast.

Canadian Comedians

From Martin Short to  Jim Carrey, Mike Myers to Eugene Levy, Seth Rogan and Will Arnett.  Canadian comedians are awesome. Also, Toronto is often the NY scene for most movies.

One Year Maternity Leave (with some level of pay)

No words! Amazing, right? Also, our pension plan rocks as well.

Health Care

FREE health care for ALL!!

Niagara Falls

The Canadian side is very different from the US side. See post for more details.

Canadian Candy

Think turtles, smarties and coffee crisp. Think clod hoppers and OMGs. Let me tell you, we have some amazing candy that I have to bring across the border for my American family. I read some where it's because we have a higher fat per chocolate particle ratio.  And when you taste Beavertails, you literally feel like you've tasted something that angels made. if angels made fried pastry with toppings that is!

But yeah, this is reality!

What are your favourite Canadian things?

Happy Friday, everyone!

I've only ever been to Canada once (Toronto) but I loved it and can't wait to go back. The Canada side of Niagara Falls is on my bucket list!

  2. Hey, congratulations! Also, our milk doesn't have growth hormones in it, and our meat doesn't have antibiotics. We may not be perfect, but we've done a few things right!
    Oh Canada!
