Friday Favourites---Books

Happy Friday lovelies!! World Book Day is tomorrow and in honour of it, I thought I'd highlight some of my very favourite books for the year so far. I've read a lot this year, more through the year than ever before since I quit the iPad right before bed. I've found that the blue light in the iPad was affecting my sleep so now before bed, I read just a bit.... usually simple reads as with what's going on in the world, I feel like I need something on the lighter side. Here are five of my faves read in the past few months.

I really got into Kristin Higgans this year. Her books have the same formula, fun, angst, more angst and misunderstanding. Everything is all cleared up at the end and everyone lives happily ever after. So though they were great light reads and interesting, they didn't rank very high on my list. On Second Thought though, her latest novel was one of my favourites. The protagonists are two sisters, both likable and relatable who both have major life events happen to them that forces a special bond between them.

I'm a huge Elin Hilderbrand and this book was another great one about two sisters (there seems to be a theme here) who switch lives and islands for a summer never to be the same again. I do find that Elin's earlier books are better though. In the past few years since she has started doing more than one book a year, I find her writing has suffered a bit.

The thing is, I find an author I love and then go back and read a lot of her previous reads. Jennifer's Weiner's book Best Friends Forever was another good one about two best friends (again with the two protagonists LOL) with a past steeped in complications. The detail in the writing and plot with twists and turns made it an interesting read.

Another author I got into this year was Colleen Hoover. It Ends With Us still haunts me to this day. Ugly Love is another good one that compelled me about two people who link up in the most unexpected way and develop this strong love.... all about the angst in this book... something Hoover does incredibly well.

Who Is/Was?

If you have or know kids who have a love for reading and learning, the who is (was) series is a great one to introduce the little ones to great characters/personalities in history. The grown ups in  this house also read them and in so doing, find out titbits like Walt Disney wasn't the easiest person to get along with. One of our favourites is Who is Malala?

What are some of your favourite recent reads? Anything to recommend?

Linking up with

  7. I have a couple books that I've been wanting to read, but I'm still trying to get out of my reading funk. I've been having such a hard time the last couple of months making myself sit down to read. I blame it on my new found phone apps/games. I should just delete them so I can function again. ;) Enjoy your weekend!
