Weekending-- July is awesome!

Another awesome Canada Day weekend with loads of sunshine, friends and fun. Though my mom left on Thursday and we've gotten so used to having family around us for the past few weeks, it was a happy start to school being out and summer fun ensuing!

Friday:

- D made a huge hearty breakfast of cheesy eggs and basil sausages (spoiler alert, we did NOT calorie count this weekend)
- I tried to put maple leaves and red touches into almost everything I made that day
- Our family friends Shaun and Kathryn with their boys came over in the pm with a huge bucket of fried chicken. I had lots of sides that my mom prepped me with so we were stuffed.
- After dinner, our two families headed to a neighbourhood party where the kids played with sparklers and watched a neighbour's sponsored fireworks for a half an hour. I've never been up that close to fireworks and boy were they spectacular!!!
(I won't lie though, a part of me remembered my brother and his family for last Canada Day. They had just come to our home for the first time and we had this Welcome To Canada party for them on Canada Day. It was so much fun! )

Saturday:
An awesome pool day so we spent most of the afternoon and evening in there with our friends Will and Andrea with their three kids. They will be spending the next few weeks on a lifetime adventure touring parts of Europe so we were happy to see them before they left. Lots of sangrias and snacks as we bid them a temporary farewell.

Sunday:
We headed to our same family friends' place to celebrate Shaun's birthday. Lots of backyard fun, Caribbean cuisine, great conversation and this amazing coconut lime cake that I'm still tasting!

How was your weekend?

  5. What a fun weekend for you and the kiddies even though it's bittersweet missing your mom and brother etc. The weather looks beautiful for some outdoor fun and that coconut lime cake looks amazing. It's funny that Canada Day and 4th of July fell on the same weekend....I don't remember it ever doing that.
