Stranded on a desert island with books!

First off, when writing 'desert island', I accidentally wrote 'dessert island' Can you imagine that magical heaven? Especially one where the calories are removed from all the sugar… but I digress!

I'm linking up today with Shay and Erica for three books I would take with me on a desert island. Here's what I'm thinking:

1- The Namesake.

I've loved this book even before it was made into a Hollywood movie. It's complicated, textured and extraordinary with lots of little nuances I discover on each read. A family moves from India to NYC and it shows their journey and their efforts to combine their traditions and keep their heritage all the while adapting to life in the USA.

2- Anything Elin

A has a friend named Elin and I think I like her even more since she's named after my favourite author- Elin Hilderbrand. I would be hard-pressed to name my favourite Elin book- can I just get a boxed set to take with me to the island? I reread Elin books almost every summer and it just puts me in the mood--- something I'll need if I'm on a desert island. The characters and plots are so well developed and complicated but the book always ends on a peaceful (if not happy) note.

3- The Bible
Even though I'm not Christian, I've always wanted to read the Bible. On a desert island, I'd have tons of time to do just that…. and as I'm a creature of habit, I'll be throwing in some prayers to either be at peace in the desert or transport myself back home.

What's on your desert island list of must reads? Or what's on your must have list for your dessert island?

  1. I am not a booky kind of gal. So maybe I need to get stuck on a desert island to actually get some reading done. I think I'd stick with The Bible. But I'd probably bring along my favorite book of all time 'Crazy Love' too.

  2. I've never read an Elin Hilderbrand book before. I keep hearing her name, so I guess it's time to give one a try, right?! :) Also, I ordered a bible in a year book off of Amazon. It's in chronological order, so it will be different than how I've read it before. But the bible in a year books are kind of fun because each day is marked so you know how much you have to read everyday, which is only about 15 minutes. It seems to hold me accountable a bit more... even though it took me 2 1/2 years to get through it. Ha! ;)

  3. The Namesake sounds SO good! Really intriguing. I will have to add that to my list of books to read! And I keep hearing about Elin Hilderbrand, but I've never read any of her books! I guess I need to check some of them out! Thanks again for stopping by my blog! Have a great day!

  4. If you find the "dessert island" where calories don't count...Count me in!!! I just might consider being "deserted" if it was all you could eat "dessert". :)
