The Season of Giving- Our Neighbourhood Food Drive

Stopping by for a very short but sweet Friday Favourites- C's neighbourhood food drive.

Back in November, when we were deciding on our giving for the holiday season, I asked C (aged 9) what she wanted to do. Immediately, she said a food drive for the neighbourhood. This sweet little letter followed.

I emailed it to my neighbours and the response was overwhelming. Almost every single person was thrilled to be a part of it. Just a little reminder the day before and we were good to go. I also sent the note to family and they sent me money. D's parents who were here also contributed. We went to Costco on Wednesday and got quite a bit of necessities!

Yesterday after school, with carols blasting and fresh snow falling, we went around the neighbourhood and the girls had fun picking up all the food. It was such a lovely Christmassy day. Quite a few donations were too heavy to lift so mama had to help.

The original plan was for me to take her. But two carloads and a back seat didn't allow for that so the whole family went.

503 lbs of necessary donations later, this girl was so happy she did this initiative and wants to repeat it again next year.

These complicated days, it's so easy to be cynical about the season, about the people and about different causes. But it can also be so simple to take some action and do something about it. Make some magic, lend a hand or at least assist others in need. That to me... and a certain nine year old... is what Christmas is all about!

Linking up with
