Friday Favourites- my 2.5 year old

A couple weeks ago, on my half birthday, a little lady turned two and a half- she told everyone who would listen-- " it's my half butday". She actually still says this up to yesterday. This is the last year it would make sense to do this but here's a little bit about my favourite little toddler.

Stats:

She is about 24-25 pounds, depending on the day, her clothes and how wet her diapers are
She is still in diapers- Size 3 or 4
Wearing 18-24 clothes though I'm slowly bringing out the 2T dresses and pants for the length
Sporting size 7 shoes

Likes and Dislikes:

Milk is her jam- she asks for it all the time. Sometimes she varies it and asks for warm milk or fresh milk (like I give her stale milk) but it's always milk-- the answer is often no as she gets milk twice a day but asks for it about 10 times.
Her family--- especially her mama
Dolls and babies--- all those babies and dolls that C got and never really used is being put to good use.
Pull ups- I bought pull ups a couple weeks ago for when she begins the potty training and needs to go. However, she is obsessed with the colours and look and always asks for them.
Her friends-- especially Raven, Elin and Brody.
The cake baking app on the iPhone
Her kitchen- another gift for C that she uses way more
She is my foodie- this girl will try anything at least once. She will tell you if she likes it or not. And her jaw will clamp shut if she doesn't. Her favourites are chicken, eggs, cheese, potatoes, cucumbers, nuts and salads. Now she is asking for sugars or growmups-- both meaning candy.
Dislikes:
My hair in a pony tail-- she really gets very mad and pulls the hair tie off my hair.
Not getting milk

Quirks:

She's not a morning person and wakes up very cranky-- hence the warm milk. I seriously think she's be a caffeine girl when she grows up
Still sleeps in her crib- we intend to keep her there until a couple months from now when the crib finds a new home
She has been saying "that's not fair to me." Wondering where she got that from, huh C?
Reads her potty training books all the time like they're works of fiction
Can't say L. It's the cutest thing.
She chats about anything and everything. Her vocabulary is astounding! From words like octagon and ellipse to remembering the words in the Planet Song
She gets totally mad when I tell her that I love her more. As she apparently loves me more.

And there you have it--- my baby is now is a toddler but will always, always be my baby. I will keep you posted on potty training…. happening very soon--- eek!

Week 3(ish) and 4 photos

It's February, it's cold, but life's still fun--- when it's not a little insane. Here's a few pics from the past few days.

Day #23
Grilled cheese and juice a happy kid does make. She asked for the fruit cup but totally stole some fries also!

Day #24
My birthday dinner with my peeps.

Day #25
Elsa is apparently making a smoothie. My friend Jenn gave her appliances for her kitchen and she could not be happier.

Day #26
Sweating up a storm in sub zero temps #oversharing #whowantstoseeallthatsweat

Day #27
My parents were here a few extra days so my mom made sweetbread (and freshly baked bread and fudge). My kids loved the sweetbread most and still ask me for it. Sorry kids, mom's watching her calories and would inhale the entire thing if it were around.

Day #28
Wednesdays in the baby music parking lot. We had just dropped off C to dance with a babysitter. After our music class,we head back for C, drop A home with the baby sitter and come back to music with C. Let's just say Wednesdays are a little bit insane.

Day #29
My little helper in the snow. She tries but she ends up making a bit of a mess in my neat piles.

Day #30
Practising in heels. I have a feeling she's going to have really big feet. This coming from an 8.5

Also the night of the amazing martinis

Day # 31
Leading to this in the wee hours of #31

Also leading to lots of downtime the following day

Day #32
Superbowl Sunday. Chowing down on that chicken wing like her life depended on it.

I also have this pic from 3 years ago when she was doing exactly the same thing! #daddysproud

Day #33
Snow day. I let the girls go out for five minutes in the back yard until A got in waist deep and C had to rescue her. And then that didn't work so I had to race out and do it myself.

Tuesday's Recipe- No bake energy bites

My friend Jenn made these the other day and I kinda went crazy over them. So did my family. So much so that I had to make my own batch. And then between us and our friends they finished and then I had to make a half batch again for the un Super-bowl festivities at home yesterday. And now that's done and I'm seriously contemplating making another batch this weekend. They're that good! And they're kind of healthy too so you won't feel totally guilty eating them.

So here you go. Adapted from Gimme Some Oven

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup oatmeal- I used quick oats
  • 2/3 cup coconut flakes
  • 1/2 cup nut butter (Jenn used cashew so I copied her)
  • 1/2 cup ground flax seed (I didn't have this so I ground up a mixture I had of hemp, chia and buckwheat)
  • 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 1/3 cup honey (I think you can even do a little less than this)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

DIRECTIONS:

Stir all ingredients together (dry first and then wet) until thoroughly mixed.

Cover and let chill for an hour.

Roll into balls of whatever size you would like. (Mine were about 1" in diameter.) Store in the fridge for up to a week (they may or may not last than long)

Makes about 40 balls.

So my detox begins this week. I'll allow myself a couple cheats here and there, but for the most part, it's all good eating, all most of the time. I don't do well cold turkey though so this recipe is a bit of a transitional one…. with just some dark chocolate thrown in for good measure :-)

Last weekend in January! Hello February

I know that I'm sounding like a broken record but it's very, very cold… Someone told me once that people in colder temps talk about the weather way more than those in the warmer climates and that's me personified.

D and I began the weekend on Friday going to a cocktail party titled "Some Enchanted Evening". The martinis were refreshing, the oysters were freshly shucked and the evening was very adult. No sippy cups or disney princesses in sight.

The master martini maker-- I had a pickled onion martini, my absolute favourite.

Of course, after this, we headed with our friends to a bar- in the freezing cold, in heels no less- which surprising (to us) had live music. After a song or two, a few of us headed back to our house for even more drinks and pizza…. like we were teenagers at college… never mind that four out of the five of us had young kids to wake up to… and we eventually called it a night at 2 am.

On Saturday, Darin had a meeting in Toronto all day so it was all me with my kiddos. Let's just say they watched more tv than usual,  mama napped when the baby napped and totally phoned it in and got them Happy Meals. I did manage to take them skating and to a friend's house for tea and a play-date.

She's moved up a class. This one's 50 minutes long!

Horsing around while waiting on C

Yes, that's my kid attempting to flip in the trampoline

D came home with takeout Thai and we watched the Parenthood Finale. Poignant end to a wonderful show-- footnote, watching a show with an almost six year old with a million questions does not allow one to concentrate.

And then on Sunday we had our un-Superbowl get together- 'cause let's face it- the best part of Superbowl are the snacks and the half time show. D's cousins came over and we had some fun and some food.

(the preggo girl is having non alcoholic stuff- promise)
Cassia is also eating those wings

And there you have it. Tons of snow to shovel and a snow day today but a great start to February!
