Friday Favourites- Our Naxos Recap

Happy Friday, lovelies! Here's a recap of island of Naxos. I was the most torn about Naxos--- should we do Mykonos or should we head to Naxos... but put it out there in the www and the general consensus was that Naxos was an under discovered little treasure, cheaper and less crowded than Mykonos. It reminded me of some of the smaller, less touristy Caribbean islands and had way more Europeans than the other islands we visited. We spent three days there and it was such a beautiful, relaxing respite.

We took a tiny flight (and had to pay euros extra for extra luggage yikes) to Naxos from Athens. I should preface this by saying that I could not for the life of me fall asleep the night before so I was virtually sleep walking by the time we got to Naxos.

Our room wasn't ready so we sat at the beautiful pool with some refreshments they provided us with.

We stayed at The Eighteen Grapes hotel. A boutique hotel very close to one of the best beaches on the island.

Our room was light, airy and oh so lovely.

After a nap relaxing a bit, we headed out to explore the town a grab a couple bites.

We walked through the town and onto the beach

We accidentally stumbled onto a nude beach but took no pictures #sorrynotsorry

Dinner was at the Gorgona restaurant overlooking the ocean. They made their own wine.

Drinks at night at our hotel!

Bright and early the next morning, we headed out for an early morning hike to avoid so much sweltering heat.

The ocean was soooo beautiful.

This trek was one of the highlights of our trip. All that beauty!

I drank maybe four glasses of water when we came back to the hotel and lounged by the pool for a hot minute.

The fresh fruit juice was one of my very favourite parts of this trip.

We then headed to relax by the ocean for a few hours.

We spent about four hours there and also had some beverages/eats. Sidenote, I think I make better calamari than any I tried in Greece and this was a bit of a disappointment for me.

Dinner that night at the Taverna Giannoulis was followed by this delicious coconut cake and ouzo-- and it was complimentary!

We rented a car the next morning and drove through the island. First stop, Moni. So beautiful and so picturesque. So many tiny paths, lush grape vines and olive trees,  and stone houses

Beautiful hand-spun textiles.

We then headed to Apollon- the tip of the island. Such a beautiful blue beach once more.

I was clearly and untentionally doing a very messy beachy wave in Greece. Also, my flat iron didn't work.

In the evening, we headed to the Chora or Naxos town where we explored the Kastro

More little pathways, small churches and so much beautiful stone

The portara or the doorway to the Temple of Apollo was so breath-taking  seemingly in the middle of the ocean.

For dinner, we started with a regular salad as I was getting a little tired of Greek Salads but then they included a greek salad with our meal LOL

The next morning, we explored another path and then it was time to head to our ferry to our final stop, Santorini!!

If you've made it this far and you are not family or a very close friend, congrats ;-D

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!!

  1. Naxos looks beautiful and I bet it was less crowded than Mykonos (which was packed on an evening). If we go back we want to see Naxos, Corfu and Santorini.
