Fabulous Friday!

Once again, here are some very random goings on from my little corner of the WWW.

1- We are losing teeth like crazy in this house. Tooth #5 on Wednesday. The tooth fairy needs to take a small loan!

2- There have been some random sales this week.  Ann Taylor had a 50% off/Free Shipping Deal. Though their stuff skews older, I managed to snag a top for A's birthday this summer. All Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown items are being price matched at Nordstrom so I picked up their shimmer brick, a brow kit and an eye lash curler that I've had my eye on for ages. Children's Place also had a 50% off. Though I'm not a fan of the quality of their clothes, their tights and capris are huge in this house of dresses where little ladies don't really sit like well, little ladies.

3- Does anyone else watch The Good Wife? Is it just me or has it taken a totally dark turn this season? Who here is also scared of Lamar ? We know that Archie Panjabi is leaving the show-- will Kalinda be killed off? And what's Alicia's future?

4- What, you don't eat fish like that in your house?! And yeah, my six year old was being picky in the background.

(If you're on the iPad, chances are you won't see this demolition!)
On a sidenote, A also loves oranges and I have to hide them from her.

5- Honestly, this nephew of mine NEVER stops smiling. I think his cheeks must hurt from all those juicy baby grins.

And those are my very random thoughts for this week. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Vitamix-love

About 2 years ago, my generous mother in law gifted us with a Vitamix. 'You have young kids and you cook a lot, you'll use it now. Let me buy this for you,' she wisely coaxed. After a while (it is an investment piece after all), I  acquiesed and man, I'm glad I did! Life has never been the same! Here's just a few ways my Vitamix has made our life better:

1- Smoothies. So this is the single most use I get out of my Vitamix. I used to use my Magic Bullet before -I gave that one to my mother in law in a not so fair trade off- but the Vitamix  really blends all my veggies and fruits into a totally whipped consistency and totally blends in the chia and hemp that I use for  my protein- I have lots of different smoothie recipes but my basic method is here.

2- Soups. Love how whipped my soups become here---especially things like a butternut squash or sweet potato soup. Sometimes if I need a chunkier soup, I use my immersion blender.

3- Home-made condiments and marinades. Think marinades for meats or home-made hot-sauce--- so much fresher and tastier than the store bought stuff--- and less processed too.

4- Juices. Though I went on a juice cleanse recently, for everyday, I prefer the juices in the Vitamix because the fibre is still there. My favourites are carrot or simple OJ.

5- Cauliflower. now that I'm a little obsessed with cauliflower rice, this is my go-to for ricing.

6- Desserts. They are the best for a quick, healthy dessert. My favourite combo is unsweetened greek yogurt, frozen berries and a touch a honey for the kids or Stevia for me! It is seriously awesome.

And there are a ton of other uses I still haven't really experimented with like nut butters and milks!

What about you? What sort of blender do you have? Any other uses for the Vitamix?

Lady Bug Caprese Bites

This recipe is the simplest one I've ever posted. In fast, I feel kind of bad calling it a recipe as it's really just slicing and assembly.

I saw these a few weeks ago at D's cousin's baby shower…. they were so pretty and so yummy and I knew that I would be recreating them sometime soon! And that I did… for an Easter brunch I went to…. where everyone also loved them!

Ingredients

Fresh mozarella cheese
Grape tomatoes (or any small tomatoes)
Olives (pitted preferably)
Basil Leaves
Balsamic Cream/Glaze

(since this recipe is so simple, I used the best fresh items I could find since the tastes really come through)

Method

Cut cheese into thin slices. (the better quality cheese do spring some water though)

And tomatoes in half with tiny slits on each half (about 1/2 inch)

And olives in quarters

Tear basil leaves (if you need to) to fit the tops of the cheese slices. (D's cousin made a home-made pesto and used it instead of the basil leaves and that was so delicious)

Assemble: cheese, basil, tomato and then olives

Place drops of balsamic on each to mimic a lady bug. You can use a medicine dropper if you're a perfectionist-- I'm not- hahaha!

And there you have it. So simple but so cute to take to a party! They are the perfect dish for a shower, picnic or brunch!

Enjoy!

Hooray for Friday!

Oh Friday!! I've not looked forward to you like this for a long time. And I haven't posted a Friday round up in a long time. I just might have forgotten how to do it.

1- Juice Cleanse

So after the weekend of birthday fun and cake and a pretty fun Easter, my friend Jenn convinced me, D and her husband to do a three day juice cleanse with her. It's quite controversial as there are many fans but just as many nay-sayers. I'd do anything once but I'd have to say I was the most hesitant participant trying to convince all parties involved to do only two days-- yeah, I failed. So for the past two days, we've been having 6 fresh, organic cold pressed juices (made by a local company) and lots of water. I'm not dying-- I mean I could eat a sandwich for sure but it's really not been as bad as I thought it would be. And I'm down 6 pounds in three days…. yeah I know it's a lot of water weight!  If you're interested, I can provide more information.

My meals for the last few days

Not going to lie, this was totally me.

And yeah, if I'm juicing again anytime this summer, this will be the twist. I think once a year is a good idea.

2- Carnival Craziness

If you missed reading about C's Carnival Party, here you go! Here also is probably my favourite pic of the birthday girl!

3- Big Girl Stuff

Somebody is moving into her big girl bed this weekend and look at this adorable bedding her Mama ordered for her at PBK- with a 20% discount code of course!!

(it's muted golden polka dots) with ballerina sheers.

4- For realz!

Love this …. who says it's only about the daddy/daughter bond?!

5- Spring Fashion

This article has some amazing spring looks but this colour combo is my fave and has been floating around Pinterest for quite some time now! Love mint and taupe together with white!

And in case, you'd like some more fashion inspiration:
