Thankful Today

Happy Monday, lovelies! Here are a few things I'm so thankful for on this wintery, buses cancelled, kids not in school, windy day:

Image result for thankful today
- That our power didn't go out this weekend with these freezing temps and the very strong winds.

- For girls' night in with this special girl who is so good for my soul.

This was taken for girls' night out a few weeks ago for a special birthday celebration!

- For a husband who picks us up from girls' night and hangs out with us because we he is cool.

- That we completed ski season in one of the harder winters in recent times.

- For warm, worn slippers on cold floors.

- Vitamin C serum,  and a really good moisturiser in the colder months

- That my 9 year old loved watching the Red Carpet with me and just a tiny bit of the award show. Loved all the pinks that were there.

- That my six year old complained that we were speaking about fashion too much!

- For my mama, her kind heart, her good nature and her sweet, simple soul. Happy Birthday! Love you so much.

- Facebook memes that literally make me LOL like this one...

- For Rami Malek's wonderful performance in Bohemian Rhapsody. It haunts me and D-- so good!

What are you thankful for today?

Make it a great week, lovelies!

Currently.... and a little Q&A

April showers have taken on a whole new meaning around here. LOTS of rain scheduled for the upcoming weeks. Let's hope they do bring those beautiful blooms.

Linking up with Anne for some Currently. Here's what's been going on around here.

Showering- ourselves ;-s

Cultivating- kind, strong, responsible kids. Working on inclusion, cleaning up after themselves and choosing great over good, something we affirm everyday on the way to school.

Expecting- that the tooth fairy will be poor after all the teeth we've been losing around here. In the past month, we've had 4 teeth lost between both kids and at least 4 other loose ones.

Making- some travel plans for the rest of 2018. Woo-hoo!

Buying- some summer clothes. When my mom comes to visit from the US. I order way more than I need online, she brings it for me, I try it on in my own personal space and she returns what doesn't 'spark joy'. Anyone else would probably say no or not do it as quickly but my mom is awesome about it.

And a little spring Q&A with the Blended Blog.

3. What is the first wardrobe item you ditch in Spring?
My ugly snow boots.
4. Who mows the grass where you live?
A very nice man named Alonzo. :-)

Car wash though not nearly often enough.

All about me...

From time to time, I link up with Andrea for Show and Tell Tuesday. This prompt about what  makes you, you, your nicknames, your phobias, quirks has to be one of the cooler ones. Buckle up kids, I've got lots to share!

Nicknames

My nicknames are few and far between.  My grandma (who has a nickname for each of her grandkids) and Uncle call me Sweetie. Grandma also calls me Queen Victoria--- no idea why? Maybe I loved to play dress up as a kid?! And D used to call me Scrappy--- as in Scrappy Doo because when we started dating I would talk his ear off. Oh and he calls me Sarits too.

Phobias

I am so scared of cats. Like terrified. It was worse when I was younger but I'm still not a fan. I think they look at you weird.

Even to post this picture scares me!
Big toads also freak me out.

I'm scared of wearing stilettos again, since I kind of blame them for my broken collarbone

Quirks/What makes me, me?

I have a four letter "f" word I can't stand-- and it's not the one you're thinking of-- although I don't care for that one too. I don't like the f word associated with passing gas--- I really, really don't. It's my f word.

I can't handle chipped nail polish at all!!! Especially dark colours.

I don't like washing dishes. I mean, I do it every.single.day but I don't care for it. I can cook up a storm, I pack a mean dishwasher and I can tidy up everywhere after but dishes I could pass on. I wear gloves most of the times when I do. I  think it's because I want my manicure to last longer or my hands not to get 'old'-- I dunno.

I am a girl mom and so proud of it. I've wanted it for my entire life. It irks me when people want me to 'try for the boy.' Like seriously irks me. I always say something.

I always have appies and wine in my house in case someone pops by for an unexpected visit.

I must make my bed every morning. You know what they say-- the state of your bed is the state of your head. I mean the rest of the house could be a total mess but my bed?! No way!!! Apparently it's a good thing that I do.

I don't say 'when I used to work' even when I was totally a SAHM. I instead say 'when I was in the corporate world". I think mamas work SO hard.

I rarely wear sweats even at home or pajamas all day to lounge around in. I feel so much better when I'm ready for the day-- even if it's in leggings and a simple tunic. Even as babies, I used to dress up my kids in something other than sleepers lots of the time. My logic was that I'm not in my pajamas all day, why should my kids be?

Yep, that's quite a few quirks, huh? What about you?  Are you as weird as I am? :-)

Friday Favourites

Hurray for Friday!! Definitely a favourite around here. I asked C what her fave day was and she did say Friday as it was Family Movie  Night! Can't say I blame her.
And here are my favourites this week.

1- Zoodles

We're all about the zoodles around here. The light way to get your veggies in and eat your pasta. This veggetti makes easy work out of it. I made some Asian inspired chicken peanut zoodles recently and it was so, so yum! Recipe coming soon.

2- Popcorn and Tires-- together

My not so favourite part of this week was when I banged my tires and had to get them replaced fixed. Such an awful experience but the customer service at Kal Tires was exceptional and they had popcorn and coffee. I was stuffing my face at 10:30 am!

3- Pantry love

Organised pantry = happy lady! Took me quite some time but I finally made some progress on my overstuffed, disorganised pantry. I would have done a before but we would not be friends anymore if you saw it. Yeah, I wish I had all matching containers and chalkboard labels but this is still much better than it was last week! So yeah, a huge favourite. Now to bring the label maker out!

4- Settling in

After a challenging couple weeks, my six year old is settling in to her new school. Lots of newness, strange people and a huge school did not a happy camper make initially. Now, she comes home with happy stories and talks about her friends and what they do! And I begin volunteering next week at her school. So very happy that I'm able to do that. Lots of changes!!

5- Girl Power

And because it's a girls' world is all about the girls,  a few quotes in case my girls come back to read this blog when they grow older!

And here are my other posts this week:

Twenty Questions

Twenty questions just in time for Tuesday Talk with Beth and some other lovely ladies!!
I got this idea from Kaitlin a little while ago and it seemed so fun.

1. Favorite food:
I love food in general-- but these days I'm really into mexican, thai and trini food. Told you I love food.

2. Flip flops or high heels:
Flip flops in daily life. But high heels to dress things up… I do have sensitive feet though so the heels come
after a while.

I'd like to say DIY but I'd be lying. I make edible things-- at least one- for each of my kids' parties.
And a couple decorations. Does that count?

7. Top 5 TV shows:
Grey's, DTWS, The Good Wife, Modern Family, How to get away with Murder, NAshville-- oh wait, that's six! And forget the Bachelor Franchise!
I love TV>

8. Favourite Book:

A glass of water, ear plugs, Vicks Vapor Rub (I'm ninety years old).
I'd say my iPad but I hide it under the bed because of the blue light :-)

The purest love in the entire world.

NKOTB

Hmmmm, maybe North Carolina or Italy!

Nordstrom, People (ha), Skimm

18. Morning person  or Night owl?
Since having kids, I've definitely become a morning person.

19. Favorite Breakfast meal:
I love toast but alas my waistline doesn't! So it's smoothies, oatmeal or granola and yogurt most mornings…. but on weekends I bust out the carbs.

20.  What do you collect?
Candles on sale! Especially fall ones! But I also go through them.

Have a wonderful day!!

Love, Hate, TAG!

The lovely Whitney and Beth have tagged me a while back in this love/hate posts. 10 things you love, 10 things you hate and 10 bloggers to be tagged.

Loves:

1-  A morning work out. It sets me up for the rest of the day really well.
2- I recently discovered Sancerre-- a very dry, light wine similar to a Sauvignon Blanc. Problem is it's so hard to find… and a little pricy.
3- A thank you message or phone call after I've gone out of my way for someone. I mean I'm not doing it for the thanks but the thanks is nice. Well manners in general. A please, thank you and courtesy… yes, please.
4- Being a girl mom
5- Weekends that are the perfect combo of family, friends, relaxation and entertainment
6- Making a really, really big deal out of celebrations.
7- An organised linen closet… I mean REALLY organised with the ends of my towels matching…. weird, I admit it.
8- Toast and tea--- seriously a match made in heaven.
9- A random FB message or email from someone unexpected
10- A little time to myself at the end of the day to read, watch TV or mindlessly go online.

Hates:

1- An unmade bed.  My entire bedroom could be a train-wreck but my bed has to be made.
2- Dirty feet--- I must wash my floors if that happens…. or my feet if someone else has dirty floors.
3- Chipped nail polish--- on myself at least.
4- Waiting around for a long time at an appointment. My time is valuable!
5- Losing someone in a crowd. And D always wanders off--- and I panic.
6- As much as I love being a mom, I hate the plethora of hairclips that they constantly lose.
7- Public bathrooms--- well mass ones anyways.
8- Confrontations-- I can be a coward. That being said, if I have something to say to you, I'd try to say it (*nicely) instead of talking about it behind your back.
9- Disrespect-- for people, lives, parents, in-laws--- just plain old disrespect!!!
10- Traffic! I will do virtually anything to avoid traffic.

And here are just a few of my favourite blogs who haven't been tagged yet (or maybe they have)
Kelly @ Happily Ever Mock
Natalie at From Corporate to Domestic
Carol from Keeping up with the Kaunes
Samantha at Cherry Pie Twins
Deena at Shoes to Shiraz
Kristi @ Rejoice and Repeat
Kay @ The Kay Times

What's up, Wednesday!?

Time to play catch up on what's been going on with us this summer on this fine Wednesday!!! (Note that a couple recurrent themes abound in this post-- ahem, Disney & summer)

                                                                      What we're eating:
We may have jumped off fallen off the wagon this month. Think eating out, carbs and a bit more    sugar than I'd care to mention!! For us and the kids! Summer eating is just so much fun!

                                                            What I'm reminiscing about:
A's sunshine party this weekend. You know when you have a party and you're thinking about it for a few days after…. well, we're at that point now. Talking about the good, the bad and the extremely chaotic… think 23 kids and a similar amount of adults, people!

                                                                   What I'm loving…
White wine spritzers--- so refreshing in the summer.
And spending time with my nephew.

                                                              What we've been up to…
Everything summer-- seriously, this summer has been busy but SO very much fun with tons of playdates, day trips and pool time.

And s'mores :-)

                                                                 What I'm dreading…
Part 2 of Basement cleanup. But I'm looking forward to it as well.

                                                              What I'm working on…
Summer fun for my kiddos! And a little Disney planning. And my blog needs a lil' loving too.

                                                          What I'm excited about…
My kids and their reaction to our week at Disney

                                                        What I'm watching/reading…
I don't do a whole lot of TV watching in the summer but I've been indulging in a little Mistresses and will be watching a little train wreck called Bachelor in Paradise. Full House reruns have also been on repeat this summer. And I read Carole Ratzewille's book 'What Remains'. So well written and it stayed with me for days. Now I'm officially intrigued by the Kennedys and may be reading a couple more books about them

                                                          What I'm listening to…
Gretchen Reuben podcasts in the gym.

                                                            What I'm wearing…
Full on swimsuits, summer shorts, halters, capris and dresses… And sunscreen of course :-)

                                                  What I'm doing this weekend…
We have a long weekend with the Monday off here in Canada so on Saturday we are going to watch the Caribana parade in Toronto. On Sunday, we are planning to go berry picking and to a picnic and on Monday, we might just have a BBQ.

What I'm looking forward to next month…
Squeezing every bit of summer fun we can before school starts. And DISNEY of course

                                                                      What else is new….
We have a newly minted three year old in the house. My brother, sister in law and nephew are around for this year so we are seeing them several times for the week.

What will I miss most about summer?
All the fun we've been having. The time spent with family and friends. And the heat! I'm an island girl after all…

Linking up with the lovely Mel, Shay and Shaeffer
