Stranded--- with outerwear?!

It's Wednesday, lovelies and I'm heading for an overnight with some girlfriends tomorrow so it's like my Friday!

I'm treating this link up as outerwear I can't live without... as I'm not sure in a desert island we'd need too much outerwear. As we have crazy cold Canadian weather (and I'm an island girl originally), here are just a few of my go-tos.

In the very sub zero temps, I always have my trusty, thick, not very pretty jacket for most of the winter. I've gone with the Gap primaloft in the past few years. This year, I purchased the CK packable one when Amazon Prime Day came around. I love that it isn't too heavy but it's warm.  Having worn it a couple times though,  I don't know if it will be warm enough so I think I'll have to bite the North Face bullet when there's a good sale going on.

I like a dressier coat too sometimes and this one is my favourite. It's super old- about seven years old.  I bought it at a Black Friday sale at Macy's for about $60 and I've gotten my money's worth. Here's a similar one.

Thanks to Sheaffer, I bought this cardigan a few years back and use it all.the.time as a robe/cardigan/sweater. I love how light, soft, warm and cozy it is! The one below is the circle cardigan version that my mom gifted me with earlier this year and I think I prefer it (though it's like asking me to choose a favourite child) . Though it's technically not outerwear, f there was ONE piece I'd definitely pack, this would be it.

What's your favourite outerwear? Any recommendations for the warmest coat ever?

Summer Style

Summer styling is the best. Bring on the colour, light fabrics and flip flops. Here are just a few of my go to's for 2016--- the year of easy!

With my broken collarbone, it was all about the swing dresses this summer. I have this dress in 5 different colours and the sleeveless version in two. They were SO cheap on sale from Gap/Old Navy. They're also great coverups after swimming and totally easy to accessorize.

I don't think I have worn any summer dress as much as this one that I got last summer… with a statement necklace and wedges to dress it up and with a simple necklace and sandals for the daytime…. i'm thinking of purchasing it in another colour but it never goes on sale. (size down though if purchasing)

Can you tell what colour I'm obsessed with?

Rompers totally suit my body type and this one is my go-to this summer. I ordered it in pink when it went on sale.

I totally surprised myself by buying this print maxi but I'm loving it!

And for accessories,  I tend to go light during the day with some statement pieces like a nice chunky bracelet or necklace thrown in (I don't do huge earrings often as I'm kind of worried of it catching in something).

I adore this one I bought a couple years ago and wear it all year round.

This one is an oldie but another good one that blog-land hearts. (goes on sale a few times a year too)

And my studs in so many colours!

What are your go-to's for summer? Linking up with Shelly and Katy today for Spiel The Beans!

A sense of style

Today on Andrea's Show & Tell Tuesday, it's all about showing your personal style.  I'm a gal who loves to dress up but who also wants to be comfy now that I'm running around for most of the day. I like to look put together but I also don't want to be cranky because I can't walk in my heels to pick up my kids.  Here are just a few of my faves:

Leggings.
For about 9 out of the 12 months, I love me some leggings. (and I wear crop leggings in the summer) I like looking put together but I prefer legging to jeans as I find them more comfy. The ones from Hue with the wide waist-bands and the ponte ones from Lou and Grey are some of my faves.

Tunics:
I usually pair my leggings or skinny jeans (sometimes, Loft again for the win)  with some sort of tunic. Knit in the cooler months and cooler, thinner fabrics come spring. However it's that little extra like mixed fabric, a pattern or there or a layered look that I usually gravitate towards.

Scarfs:
Love  a cloth scarf to dress up/warm up an outfit. I lead towards patterns most times and whatever is on trend.

Jewelry
Once again, easy pieces that I can wear for pick up, drop off and at home.

Rompers
In the summer, I love me some rompers for my adventures with the girls.

These days I'm also into swing dresses! Oh and this one was a staple last year. I wore it so.many.times.

Dress me up style
Here's when I go to town more. In the cooler months, I wear a blazer and jeans or leather leggings and a detailed top. Come May, I bust out my summer dresses. And of course, there is always statement jewelry around. . And maybe, just maybe some heels!

Some S&D pieces that have caught my eye.

Style tips I usually follow:
1- I don't go crazy mixing and matching too many patterns. A couple mixes are fine but not like 5 different prints.
2- I don't over accessorize. I usually choose one or two statement pieces-- not three or four.
3- As I tell my kids, it doesn't matter how fancy your clothes are, if your hair isn't combed or your face isn't washed, it's all a wash. I usually put on some sort of makeup and make sure my hair is at least combed.
4- I don't always follow trends--- though I love cropped tops and minis,  it's just not working for me, two kids later. Just not happening.

There you have it… Do we have anything in common? What are your favourites year round?

Scarf Exchange 2015 and Happy Divali

Happy Divali to all those celebrating! For those who don't know about Divali, you can read my post here. We will be off to our aunt's house for family prayers and dinner together.

This year I participated in Whitney's, Elizabeth's,  and Courtney's scarf exchange.

Scarf Exchange

I love scarves! Coming from super hot temps, I never had the need for one until I was in my mid twenties and moved up to the cooler climates. But it was then that the love affair begun. Once my neck is warm, I can conquer the world- #reallynotreally.  Scarves dress up (or dress down) an outfit, can add a splash of colour and keep you warm too. I keep my scarves on lots of times even when I take off my jacket.

I was matched up with Evelina from Fortunate House and she sent me the sweetest packages and note. And I got not one but two soft, airy scarves!

Such neutral colours go with everything!

A photographer I am not.

Neither a smiler apparently!

Thank you Evelina for the wonderful scarves.
I sent mine to Rhonda at Ever Batiuk

Can't wait to see everyone else's presents!!!

Falling into Fall--- all of my faves….

And hello fall!!! If you can't beat them, join them, no? And though I will miss the wonderful summer we've had and the beautiful memories made, fall is also fun for these very reasons:

Fall Fashions

I've always loved fall jackets and cloth scarves before the chill of winter gets to me. I prepped in July at the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and yeah, one might observe that I'm into blazers, blanket cardigans and tunics this year. And let's not forget the darker nail-polishes and booties!!

Pumpkin

Pumpkin EVERYTHING. I'm actually not the biggest pumpkin fan but my family certainly is. From these amazing pumpkin poppers, to pumpkin pancakes to a PSL or two to pumpkin pie…. they just can't get enough. And slowly, I'm coming around! And forget about BBW's pumpkin soaps and candles. i.can't.even.

Soups

I love soup. Even in the summer. We make them at least once a week. but I step my soup game in the fall with all the seasonal produce.  My butternut squash recipe is a fave among my group as is this Trinidadian corn soup. (perfect while you can still get fresh corn)

Candles

My fall candles deserve a special post all on their own. I wait for a sale and then do some damage on the BBW three wick ones.  But then we use them ALL up. My absolute favourite is the pumpkin pecan waffle. It smells so, so good!

My stash this year.

Outings/Holidays

There's pumpkin patching and apple picking for sure. Halloween, our Canadian Thanksgiving and Divali…. lots and lots going on!!

Maybe fall's not so bad after all :-)
