Friday favourites

Happy Friday, friends! Lots of fa-la-la all around but I of course managed to pick up one nasty cold from my germy kiddos. They're fine, except for their perpetually runny noses but I've been congested, sneezy and feel downright ick! Note to self, do not accept sloppy kisses from a two year old with a runny nose.

I couldn't let my Friday link ups pass though! Totally random post filled with holiday cheer!

1- Cookie-Mania

I won't lie. Baked goods are my jam and they have been  a-plenty in this house of sugar addicts. Though I should be having this…...

Instead of course, I'm choosing this!!! My awesome skor bars…. I'm fighting making a batch as we speak!

D's work therapists also gave all the physicians this. Isn't it a terrific gift? Everyone makes a couple batches of cookies and compile them into tins? Cookie exchange of sorts…. but you get to give it and not eat it. Yep, and there are homemade toffees in there…. I may or may not fight my kids for them.

I'm not picky, I even love these creations from Costco

I totally justify eating them, saying that they're only 150 calories for 6 cookies.

Even these babies that our kids' babysitters made for them were yummm.

Pillsbury for the win!

2-Sassy Pants Times Two

Well my favourite two year old has been giving me a run for my money. She has now begun to shout out things like "No Fair", "dat's my turn, NOW" and of course my personal favourite "miiiiiinnnnnneee". The other day when I told her no, she replied "I no wike you no more. I wike Daddy now."

That being said, Miss C did tell me that she loves to dress up and she gets her  sense of style from me and I taught her everything she knows about fashion. I don't know about that though as Missy does tend to over-accessorise! (And her outfits don't always match).

3-Christmas Shopping

This year Christmas shopping has been a bit more hectic as I'm buying for the folks up here as well as the folks in Trinidad (we're heading there two days after Christmas). I pleased to announce that for the most part I finished on Tuesday. That being said though, I can't seem to find some of the things that I bought before. Like for example, I bought this sweater for my uncle and showed it to D, who agreed it looked exactly like his taste. Now, I can't find it anywhere…. and it's not even D's size so I can't blame him.

4- Favourite Post

You guys really seem to like my Girls' Night In post this week. It was fun to put together for me as well! I'm hoping this will become an annual event.

5- Favourite Funnies.

And because we need a smile every now and again…..

Yeah, who likes fruitcake?!

Bahaha!

This is how my tree would look if the girls decorated too.

And lastly, this one is for my friend, Jenn!

Have a wonderful pre-Christmas weekend, friends (and family)!! Mine includes a possible visit to Santa, a birthday party, friends coming over and lots of wrapping! And maybe, just maybe some baking!

Scarf exchange

I love scarves! Coming from super hot temps, I never had the need for one until I was in my mid twenties and moved up to the cooler climates. But it was then that the love affair begun. Once my neck is warm, I can conquer the world- well not really, but you get the point.  Scarves can easily dress up (or dress down) an outfit and add a needed punch of colour. I keep my scarves on lots of times even when I take off my jacket.

I was thrilled to participate when Deena and Vanessa organised this blogger scarf this holiday season. The amazing Tiffany from Jersey Love sent me this awesome package!

I don’t know if you can fully see it from the pictures, but the scarf is a very trendy animal print, infinity, grey and white scarf with a slight shimmer.

First off, either Tiffany blog-stalked me digging way into my archives or she read my mind. Either way, I'm happy.  My favourite scarves are cloth infinity scarves. Infinities are so easy to style and they don’t move around too much or lose their styling. And I know I'm the exception, rather than the rule but I prefer cloth scarves. Though I have a few (I do live in Canada after all), the woolie ones feel too warm after a while and aren’t as trendy for a nice night out. So most of the time, I use my cloth scarves in the fall into the winter and then the spring.

I’ve already put my scarf to use--- I’m one of those people who gets new things and has to try them out all at once. I loved it! So warm, so light and so trendy!

Wore it to lunch yesterday!

Though the lighting is bad, it went really well with this red peacoat… incidentally, on sale at Nordstrom  right now for $28.98! (order up one size though)

And she also gave me this Caramel Moose Munch Popcorn. I told you,  it's like she's in my mind …. Caramel popcorn and milk chocolate are my two very favourite things! And Harry and David?! Shut the front door!  Thanks Tiffany!

I sent my scarf along to Becky from Vintage Pink Basket. I however, did not 'force my beliefs' on her and got her a wooly scarf instead :-)

Chocolate Pots de creme

Not to be confused with ponche de creme- a Trinidadian egg nog with a certain adult twist

From thick and creamy hot chocolate (the warm version of this recipe), to chocolate chip cookies to this recipe--- can you tell that chocolate is my poison?! I made this for my girls' night this last weekend and it was a huge hit! We scraped the very bottoms of our cups and someone may or may not have used their fingers (it might have been me)

(Although I posted this sometime back, I'm linking it up in February for Astleigh and Rachel's Every Girl Link Up. Valentine's Day & Chocolate Pots-- match made in a chocoholic's heaven. )

Ingredients

9 ounces high-quality dark chocolate, chopped (the higher quality the better)
1 1/2 cups whole milk
1 cup table cream
6 large egg yolks
4 tablespoons brown sugar (add an extra tablespoon if using bitter chocolate)
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

Directions

Place the chocolate in a blender and blend for about 30 seconds.

Whisk the milk, 1 cup cream, egg yolks, brown sugar and salt in a heavy-bottomed medium saucepan over medium heat.

Free range eggs are almost always this orange colour… Love it!

Cook, stirring constantly with a heatproof spatula, until the mixture is thick enough to coat the spatula and almost boiling, 5 to 6 minutes.

Immediately pour the milk mixture over the chocolate in the blender.

Cover and blend until combined and smooth, stopping to scrape down the sides of the blender as needed.

Divide the chocolate mixture among ramekins or small cups and refrigerate until set. ( I made almost 11 servings with mine- with all the cream and chocolate, about a 1/2 cup would be a serving)

Served with freshly whipped cream and berries…. I totally forgot to do this for mine.

And there you go, so simple but so, so decadent and delicious. And a great make ahead dessert for a fancy dinner party or girls' night.
